quite right.

floorfiller, actually, i've been reading over my science and math books like mad: chem, bio, physics, calc, algebra, though mostly because i'm trying to get into med school. otherwise i would look over my history book once in a while and read a chapter of history, just to refresh/intensify my knowledge on the subject. it's a habit. i prefer fiction, though; reading a text book to me is like reading a short story or the bible.

diffusion, did you really have to bring up "the alchemist"? and did it really blow your mind? a little self-degrading.

Funny you should mention that one.. I read it, not even a month ago, after my exams. I like Hesse a lot. He's somewhat eccentric, but not too controversial. I find him very easy to read too. The first one I read was Siddartha and I thought it was brilliant.. but it was The Glass Bead Game that was more challenging and so perplexing.. give that one a try. I would say that Glass Bead Game and Demian are more messed-up than Steppenwolf. I also read Narciscuss and Goldmund by him but I liked Demian more.

yes! yes! That one is very impressive
but some of his other ones were unexpectedly booooring
I usually cling onto one author after I read a really good book of his (notice Hesse up there haha) and same happened with Saramago.. I first read Blindness and I loved it. Then I took Journey through Portugal - nothing interesting about it.. then The year of death of Ricardo Reis - torturously boring! The same goes with The Cave

The same pattern with Paulo Coelho. Alchemist, yes, clichéd enough, I liked it. But By the river Piedra I sat down and wept, Veronica decides you die and 11 minutes were not enjoyable at all!
How come?

Hell yeah I'd recommend any book written by him.

The last three books I just finished reading in the past two weeks - I'm umemployed, so lotsa free time :
1. Men of Men by Wilbur Smith for the second time (seriously, check out any book by him too)
2. Emperor: The Gates of Rome by Conn Iggulden - great book on Julius Caeser
3. Sword in the Storm by David Gemmell - I've never really read a fantasy type book before, but this was awesome.

Whiskers: Nersesian isn't as demented as Palahniuk.. remember the whole felching deal in Invisible Monsters? Yeah.. you won't get any of that.. haha. He's a little more attentive to grammar too if you care. Still, he writes great stuff.. definitely check him out if you have some extra cash/time.

Im on the Barnes and Noble website, and I want to order Tom Clancy: Executive Orders & Op Center, but on the site all the hardcover's are large print... how big is 'large print'? I do realize they make them in paperback, but I dont like paperback.

The size can be anywhere from a 14-20 size font, it varies with the publisher. I've read a couple of large size print's, it's not that bad, though the book is longer.
