Ivan will hit the US coast (i am myself a meteorologist by degree)
The questions is what sort of power it will have when it does hit. First, it is a category five right now... but it is losing intensity because it is passing over parts of the ocean that is shallow.. and shallow waters do not supply the needed heat to sustain and keep a hurricane alive. Second, it will lose alot of power when it crosses cuba. Land is not conductive in hurricane sustainability. My estimates as well as hurricane model product estimates, is that it will be a borderline cat 2 - cat 3 when it hits the US.
Where will it hit??? That is the question. since it is still 5 days out the path can vary greatly.
This is the latest model run from the Navy Hurricane models (and it is almost exact to the national hurricane centers model runs)

Look on the bright side! You get to miss class! Granted I can walk to class so I technically never have an excuse, but if Ga Tech closed that would make my day. They probably won't though, they never do. When it snowed here last winter Tech was the ONLY school in all of north georgia to not close, and I had to drive my car in the snow down 10th Street. Thankfully I was the only car...on 10th Street. Those of you who live in Atlanta will know how nuts that is.
Anyway, I'd rather not have a cat2 go over atlanta because this city is simply not prepared for natural disasters. Its kinda funny yet sad all at the same time. I still hope that you guys down in florida don't get hit too hard. You guys should just come up here to Atlanta and chill. Get away from all those damn hurricanes!!!
I also live with two people from New Orleans and their advice is to ignore the news until 2 days in advance. Thats when you run if you have to!

Back in like grade school I remember looking in an almanac about future predictions. I vividly remember reading that someone had a theory that one day the weather would be able to be used a weapon... and we could control the weather in general. All these hurricanes appear to be coming from one point in the ocean... and I bet that's where the US base is where they make these storms. maybe...
anyways, so charley was a punch from the left, frances was a jab from the right... and ivan should be the uppercut for the knockout.
