I respect Fatboy Slim in that he makes no cruel bones about what he does -- he's out to have a good time, and he really exploited and popularized what is, in fact, an OBVIOUS idea. A lot of people whined and wanked around while he was out there getting people moving. Norman himself has admitted in numerous interviews that anyone could get on a sampler and computer and jerry-rig something up in the space of a few hours, but that's also the beauty of it. People can relate to that fast food, frenzied, easy-breezy fun and they just want to get down on the dancefloor like drunk frat boys (perhaps some of them ARE drunk frat boys) and party their hearts out. It's reflective of our consumable times. Heck, his songs are patchwork quilts of samples throughout out the ages, where old clashes with old to make new.
I don't relate, really, to his artist albums on the whole, but he's had some very notable singles over the years. "Rockafeller Skank" is always gonna be a fave, especially with that loony timestretched part in the middle where the tempo gets all slowwwed down, but my #1 of his would have to be "Weapon of Choice". WITH THE VIDEO.
