But that was just a dream, That was just a dream, But that was just a dream, Try, cry, why try? That was just a dream ,Just a dream, just a dream, Dream

Tend to agree with Stips on this subject.

And while I'm far from an expert. It's what I tried to avoid too much in my last set at UNIFY, (check the 'UNIFY THREAD' for my last track list).

I'll be trying to push this broader, less 'uplifting' but still driving sound at Ferry Corsten, in Nov.

Constantly mixing euphoric track after track is very draining on the crowd, you need to inject some groove and funk into it to get the floor chugging and rolling along again, it gets the crowd dancing hard and really feeling the beat, (well it does for me when I'm on the dance floor ;-)

Where i disagree with people is when they say "oh, trance is so stale and original" when talking about trance in general. Let me explain. Everytime trance trys to innovate and involve, many people love the new direction but they call it something else.

For example, progressive trance and tech-trance are two different directions that trance has branched out to, and they have been very successful. Both still contain many elements of the old trance sound. I see this as an evolution of trance, a change in the typical sound. However, i have found that many people continue to see "trance" as only meaning "melodic/uplifting", and they ignore the new sound or they classify it as a different genre completely. In my opinion, trance as a genre encompasses all of these different sounds.

Melodic
Uplifitng
Tech
Progressive
Psy (to a lesser extent).

I Hope that made sense.....

yea i know what u mean AJ.

Trance as a whole, i still enjoy, i just prefer the mroe subtle melodies or rolling basslines found in the techy stuff.

In saying that i play pure prog and tech at home, i like to just variy it all.

I still love a lot of uplifting trance, i just prefer the olders stuff.

Some new stuff that is great is Re:locate - typhoon and Katana - i a silence

Agreed, so therefore perhaps what's seemingly getting boring, may actually be the listener not listening to enough variety?? Or is it dj's perhaps not playing enough variety?

While not all the directions of trance at the extreme ends of each spectrum appeal to each 'trance' fan, I'm sure there are elements of each aspect to the music that people can enjoy listening to more than just the one kind of trance genre.

I think Armins last set at QBH was a pretty good example of this. Starting very proggy, uplifting at times, then into a techish section and so on. Sure kept me interested....
