yes! save as wav file first then convert to mp3 if you have to. any master copy should be kept in a wav format because mp3's degrade overall sound quality.

Sound Forge is perfect for recording. It is basically the same type of program that wavelab is. Acid is a multi-track program and is not good for recording a mix. If you want to piece together a mix with out actually dj-mixing it, then acid is the software in the Sony family that you would want to use.

An mp3, by nature, compresses the sound file to create the smaller size. By getting a smaller size, you compromise sound quality. If you are making a mix to be primarily distributed via downloads, it doesnt matter too much. However, if your mix is destined to be played on a loud system, it is better to go w/ the .wav file as the .wav file is uncompressed.

Also, when you edit a mp3 file in programs such as soundforge, wavelab, etc. it converts the mp3 to a .wav file.

i completely disagree. acid is great for recording and editing especially long sets. too each his own i guess.

i personally use audiacity to record, its simple and can save as mp3's at 192k/b....now if i could only get better at mixing... lol
