I really miss the days of Mel Allen and Phil "Holy Cow" Rizzuto

sigh ... you break my heart. sterling and kay were awesome together. when kay moved over to the yes network, and they brought in charlie steiner, that's when things went wrong. steiner is by far the worst announcer in the history of sports. no one knows what in the world he's talking about half the time. he'd rather try and say something profound than call the play ... and when i'm listening on the radio, it's usually because i can't see what's going on. thanks a lot CHUCK. but john sterling is awesome ... he knows the players, he knows the game, and i am so not tired of hearing him say "the yankees win, theeeeeeee yankees WIN!"

i think michael kay lost a lot when he split up from sterling ... they complimented each other well, and he's not the same by himself at all. and don't even start me on suzyn waldman. pooey on her.

and if anyone's gonna talk about bias, howbout the announcers on espn calling the game? the only way it could be more obvious that the announcer hated the yankees was if he was wearing a bosucks shirt and hat. when the ump made a bad call against the twins, he was all over it, but when he made a good call in the yankees' favor, he couldn't bring himself to say it. i can't remember his name at the moment, but if i did, i'd pooey on him too.

Charley Steiner was the man when he was a Sportscenter anchor. I loved it when he goofed on the air and can't stop laughing.

I also noticed that this was your first post. Welcome to TA

hahahah thanks ... i've been reading around for a while cause one of my friends is like addicted to this place and he's on here all the time ... but when i saw baseball (and especially my boys) i couldn't resist

one particular broadcast with steiner stands out in my mind though ... instead of saying "4-6-3 double play" or something along those lines, he said "and it's a ground ball ... this ball has the makings of a double play ..." and that was it. sterling had to come in and say what actually happened. again, totally not helpful when i'm listening in pittsburgh and i wanna know what's going on. i do remember another where he went off on a tangent for a few minutes reminiscing on how the umps back in the day wore bowties. i don't know how that tied in at all with the game, but there he was talking about it.

and i should probably get one more thing out of the way ... i'm sure it's clear by now that i'm a yankees fan. let it be known that i'm not a yankees fan because of jeter (although he's an amazing team player and i couldn't ask for a better person to be the captain after mattingly) or arod ... i'm a real fan & i have been since i've been on this happy little planet

ps: you're filipino too ... rockin!! (i'm a half)

Good thing Francona didn't pull a Grady and pinch run for Ortiz.

And jojo, Joe Buck and Tim McCarver are so pro-Yankee that it's not even funny. I'm pretty sure they'll be doing the CS, so if the Yanks are playing the Sox there, listen with an open ear. The bias is clear with almost every play.

I hate McCarver though. He's such an idiot. Case in point: Mets v. Yanks this year. ALex Rodriguez playing 3B, Derek Jeter playing SS, Jose Reyes playing 2B, Kaz Matsui playing SS. Joe Buck says "Ya know, it's funny. The two best SS on each of these teams aren't playing SS." To which McCarver retorts "I'd have to disagree with you... I think Jeter is a better SS than Rodriguez." Ummm...

the announcer i was trying to think of was joe morgan ... he's so obviously anti-yankees it hurts. during the game he might as well have been wearing a twins hat and jersey. he just went on telling his own story ... meanwhile, the yanks had 5 base hits in a row. and don't even start me on that whole "he's gotta play the angles on the field" thing ... when he said that cairo did it wrong, but the twins guy did it right ... the ball was hit so differently, it played differently, it BOUNCED differently ... he just wanted to make it sound like cairo didn't know what he was doing. and he wanted to call jeter's error a hit?! what in the world is that about? it was a craptastic throw by jeter, and the man definitely would have been out if jeter didn't throw it over olerud's head. cairo's play (right afterwards) could have gone either way cause it was a difficult jump to his left and he ended up bobbling it. i'm surprised he wasn't more eager to call that an error on jeet's part. only after he found out it was the first error by anyone in the series did he seem ok with it.

he gets me riled!

but it's all good in the end

Oh... well it's Joe Morgan. He's a moron and really, despite being in the Hall Of Fame, he knows nothing about baseball today.

i liked him when i first started watching espn baseball a few years ago... now i kinda can't stand him, because it seems like he's passing himself off as an arrogant, old guard member of baseball. i still like jon miller tho
