The DJ can stop the music and sing along to "I shot the sheriff" if it fits into the set AKA for me it doesnt
matter how the DJ scratches, if he only does babies and cuts or if he is the Q-Bert of prog house himself, as long as it fits the set.

Can you check out that sample of me scratching.. I think its on Page 2 or 3.. and tell me what you think :-D [/QUOTE]

Want my honest opinion?

It's clear that you are no stranger to a bit of turntablism.

In my ears, and keep in mind that it's only my humble opinion, you are going into overkill mode. i.e. there is far too much.
If I was standing in the DJ booth behind you I would probably have rolled my eyes buy the point you get to the break.

On the plus side however, what you did in the break was very good. It's probably the most effective part of what you did in all honesty. If you had just scratched there it would have been really effective.
If you listen to Halliwell, he only tends to do it in lead ins, breaks and build ups in order to charge the track with a bit of extra energy.
The track that you had there was already in full swing and didn't need anything extra. As a result it sounds a little un-needed. Key point is placement, make it seem is if the producer would have wanted it there.

Maybe your technique needs to be tightened up a little, although I fully understand that how it comes out on a recording doesn't always correspond to how it sounded live.

I think it sounds like you are well on the way with some really positive skills going on there, but try to think about how you can really change a track rather than just scratch over the top of it. As I said, the break was good and take it from there. I know the temptation to go insane with it he he. Been there done that. Will probably be tempted tomorrow... but restrain yourself.

Good on you for sharing that with us, you have got some great potential there.

Cheers
Nem
