Very true. Things seem to be better when you look at the pure statistics of it all, but these are people, children, not necessarily just numbers. Just one abandoned child is too many, though this poignant consideration won't change much...

Agreed, but I wasn't necessarily getting at 'controlling' others, that's why I related this concept to myself. The wise person can look at others and others' mistakes and say "wow...they fucked up!" but an even greater wisdom stems from the person who considers that another's mistake is probably something to watch out for, and something that they don't really want to do in their life. There is just no excuse for ignorance in this day and age - everyone in our society KNOWS that when you put tab 'A' into slot 'B', and wiggle it around long enough, you will get a perfect replica between tab 'A' and Slot 'B's likenesses about 9 months down the road. I don't care if you're 12 years old- that's old enough to know about these sorts of things, especially when they teach Sex Ed. so early in elementary schools (I was 10 when I learned about it in school). Society has placed these social inhibitions (such as wearing clothes) in order so as to discourage the unenlightened and immature from breeding. Has it worked? Nah - not really, but we should still strive to suppress this natural urge and live in moderation just as we suppress the urge to kill and maim those who cross our paths with deceitful or malevolent intent. Key word: should. Of course, people get killed and maimed and fucked and pregnant every day - the only problem that seems to arise from sex is that it's so rarely an act of love - especially within the immature; it's just an act of pure lust between those who are irresponsible enough to give in to the id at any occasion. If you are wise enough to know that sex should be a union between two people for some greater purpose than merely to reproduce, then I'd wager that you're also responsible enough to use protection as well - love is just the failsafe buffer for relationships that seem to result in a child, though.

So, you truly can't control others, and you shouldn't really attempt to - that's an irresponsible waste just as much as harboring a child despite your irresponsibility and willingness to properly take care of it. All that you CAN do, however, is more significant than most people would accredit - you have total control over yourself, when nobody owns you, no-one's to blame. As such, all you can do is try to control your own actions and act with responsibility and reason - so many people disregard this for the immediate ease that comes from instant gratification, and that's what we label as 'immaturity'-regardless of age. Just because you listen to the wisdom of others doesn't mean you are forfeiting your individuality - subjection has a way of working itself out through the mental process, and can define a person regardless of social exposure (on a level comparable with what humans consider individuality).

Kids are having sex at an early age. I know of plenty of kids my age / friends that have had sex already. I honestly don't give a shit. If they slip the puck past the goalie/catch teh puck in the glove they are now a father/mother. I feel no sympathy for them. Kids know the risks now days. We have sex-ed at earlier ages now. It's their responsibility. It's time some kids step up to the plate and take actions for their mistakes, or make adult decisions. You shouldn't be having sex period unless you can support the baby.

Personally, I'd rather not have sex with some high school classmate that won't mean anything to me in 2 weeks. So many kids just get in pointless relationships at young ages now. It's a complete waste. They hold hands, say they love each other, than 1 month later they hate each other, and find someone else to "love". Love isn't something that should just go around like the air you breathe. It should be something you long for with a special individual.

Personally, I am going to wait a bit. I'll be in college next year. Once at school I can find someone special to settle down with, and go from there.

I personally believe you should experiment and become experienced in college and the few years to follow. You shouldn't come straight out of high school looking for "the one," because you won't have had enough dating experience to know if this even is it. Get out, make mistakes, and when the time is right you'll find somebody to settle down with. But trying to settle down your first year of college is a complete waste of the college experience. I say as long as your being safe about it there is nothing wrong with exploring your options.
