No, because of laziness and ignorance (and occasionally physiological problems or psychological disorders).

then why not create mandatory excersize laws if we are going to get into the business of forcing people to be healthy?

You apparently aren't a nutritionist...

Go look at the sugar content of apple sauce my dear...

I would say that non-additive apple sauce, is way better than a skor bar. Yes it is high in sugars, but they are (supposed to be) natural sugars.

My point is that they should offer healthy alternatives.

The least they can do is set a good example, and offer them what they SHOULD be eating.

Also, most elementary schools do not allow their students to leave school property during school hours. So going to the variety store wouldn't be an option.

If the parents have previously sent a signed letter to the school stating that the child goes home for lunch, then yes, they can go home. But a very large number of students stay at the schools.

They didn't ban it, they are taking precautions because the children become the governments responsibility once they enter the school building. They can't have kids just taking off.

How come no one noticed this before???

Transfats aren't "naturally occurring", they're added to your food. Its cheaper than other forms of oils/fats

Trans fats are artificial fats made when hydrogen gas reacts with oil. They can be found in cookies, crackers, icing, potato chips, margarine and microwave popcorn.

Many manufacturers started including trans fats in their processed foods about 20 years ago to prolong their products' shelf life, but public health experts warn that these kinds of fats clog arteries and cause obesity.

"Numerous studies have found that trans fats raise our risk of heart disease," said Cynthia Payne, a registered dietitian at the University of Maryland Medical Center. "They can also contribute to an increase in total cholesterol levels and a drop in the healthy HDL cholesterol. These man-made fats are much worse for you than any other natural fat, even the saturated fats found in butter and beef."
