I say we give women 100% exclusive rights to pink.

Look at it this way. Do you really want the right to wear a dress? I don't, does that make me a homophobe because I think that style of clothing is exclusively suited to women? Dresses are a style of clothing that flatters the female form, and looks horrible on guys.

Pastel coloured clothing came and went with Miami Vice... good riddance I say

Not in a literal sense, of course.

But from a lot of the comments on this thread, it seems as though some people would be afraid to talk to a guy wearing a pink shirt. Hell, I knew kids in High School who were so homophobic, they were afraid to talk to my math teacher because all he wore was pink and lime T-shirts. I was pointing out the parallels with wearing certain-colored clothing and racism to illustrate that the perception of color is a myth in many senses - most of them having to do with false pretenses stemming from illogical prejudices involving traditional gender roles.

My reaction to such judgement was similar to my reaction when people are afraid of skin color, to such a degree, that they have set up certain barriers in their mind limiting their judgement based on looks, alone.

I swear, people are like peacocks - only basing things on the color and breadth of each others' plumage.

It would be nice if humans could move past all of it, but until then...

some guys can pull off pink, and some can't.

I'm into lime green at the moment.

Pink seems to be in fashion in many parts, and I wore a bit until I went out for a drink with a girl and she said that she absolutely hates pink shirts on guys, sure it may only be one girl, but I moved my preferences on a little.

Why not wear a dress then? Can't all of your arguments about free access to colour be applied to clothing styles? Shouldn't society move past the limitations that says dresses are only for women? Women can wear suits, so why not men wear dresses?

Imagine going to a wedding in 100 years and half the guys are wearing frilly dresses because we've "lost our predjudice against cuts of cloth that the barbarians of the 21st century had!"

Men and Women are different (thank god). Why the need to homogenize everything?

It all comes down to what is socially acceptable.

Quite often the differences between genders can squeeze in a little during periods of gender imbalance and equality.

Some hazard theories that females have had many years of moving from being severely socially disadvantaged to being closer to equal treatment, and athough there are still many areas such as careers in business and politics where women are still prejudiced, in social situations not many people would disagree that women are the dominant players.

The trend toward men being metrosexual and wearing clothes that would normally be the domain of women provides evidence of males are becoming a little more empowered.

Or, pink just looks good on some guys.
