Something like...classic trance antedates the (trance)production and DJ career of Ferry Corsten, therefore it is impossible for him to have pioneered it? Who I consider to be a classic trance pioneer has no relevance when asserting that Ferry Corsten is not one.

True, but it is relevant to whether you were debasing someone's point of view. If you'd have said "FC isn't a classical trance pioneer because the style of trance he spearheaded is actually a lot different to true classic trance. I'd call someone like Jam el Mar a classic trance pioneer because he was making trance in the early 90s and helped shape the style", that's an informative, helpful post and you're giving a good reason for your (correct) opinion. However, what you put is simply debasing his point of view.

You have not taken one crucial factor into consideration: i've tired of repeating myself. I've said more than once what I consider classic trance to be and who I believe are its pioneers. Short of putting them in my signature by copying my "favorite dj/producer" list in my profile, I won't recite them every time I have a point to make.

Then why make the point? It's pure rhetoric if you aren't going to raise a discussion.
My definition of classic trance is in this thread and who I would place in Ferry's position as a pioneer is irrelevant. My point stands.

My point that you were debasing his post stands. Your point only reinforces that.
Simply stating a fact does not mean i'm debasing someone's post.

Hmm. Read this again:
quote:
You debased his notion that Ferry is a classical trance pioneer, in usual abrupt style. If you want to argue the semantics, you debased it because you just made a simple statement highlighting his error. You didn't offer a reason of why you thought he was wrong, or an example of what you consider correct.
I didn't debase his post, I invalidated it. Inaomuch as telling someone who says 1 + 1 = 3 that 1 + 1 = 2 is invalidating a false belief.

You also corrected it, replied to it, addressed it, made a reference to it... You did many things to his post, and you debased it.
