And what Diamond says is what Im doing right now... I suggested her go to Bklyn Coll. and get her feet wet first, and than if she wants she can transfer to a better school. But she is worried about the credits not being transferable... and Im pretty sure that credits from Brooklyn College or any of the 4 year CUNY's is transferable (for the most part) to any school in NY.

Many college that are outside of major metropolitan areas are at the very least within college towns. And since there are businesses within these towns, many of these town employees, plus the faculty and staff of these colleges live in the area. Therefore, off campus housing should definitely not be a problem for the majority of these colleges.

However, being bored to death in these college towns....now that is a different story

u should really ask because some of my friends ran into problems where credits from some 2 and 4 yr CUNYs were NOT transferable and thats because some CUNYs make u take basic classes which would not be offered at a regular 4 yr institution. but within the four largest 4 yr CUNY institutions, mebbe.

actually housing in the boondocks esp around college towns is madd easy to come by, cuz u'll have families eager to help out as well as cash in on all the commuter students, u will always see rooms and/or houses for rent and whatnot...like around SUNY Albany it was full of students livign around campus...

but yeah a life on the other hand is a different story lol

nyu took 90% of my baruch credits when i was accepted as a transfer during my sophomore year (they also gave me a pittance in financial aid which is one of the reasons i stuck with cuny...)

Yeah, they were really damn stingy with financial aid. That plus the fact that I grew up next to NYU's campus, along with my grammar school and my HS being near NYU were the reasons why I didn't want to go there

they are in the middle of nowhere, but stony brook isnt that bad. i just graduated from stony brook, but the school really annoyed me, but the programmes are good. the dorming situation can really suck there, so i have heard, and finding off campus accomadation shouldnt be that hard. i always saw tons of ads for people renting rooms.

if you are looking to be close to the city, then these 2 schools are not the best choice. stonybrook is closer w/ a 2 hour train ride.
