well yea, only at first they dig into your past to figure out what went wrong, or to figure out what is causing the behavior that you are concerned about. then they take it from there.

to clarify, i saw a therapist, not a psychiatrist, and she tried to refer me to a psychiatrist on the first day. not very helpful, IMO. i am sure that there are good ones out there but i think you can get the same service from friends or even random people on the internet for free.
