Don't you get lifetime free upgrades?
It's not so expensive I think.

Anyways... Regarding the internal VST's... 3xOSC and TS404 is good plugins. Sytrus is as good as pro.
I love the FX's. They almost don't use any CPU and they're flexible and reliable.

TS404 can make some damn fat basslines. i mean super fucken fat basslines just you have to put your notes really really low in the pr. like c2 c3 area and have yout tuning set right and fuck the distortion on it is great. along with the lfo you have alot of abilty to create some intresting shit. plus the adssr env, Attack, Decay, Sustatin Slope, Release are great

3x0sc im not a fan of but ive fucked with it a little just a pain to get a good sound, however using the layering plugin you can layer about 10 of them to get a good sound outta them. layer 10 of them detune them and have all saws and load up the effects and you will probly have something workable

He probably ment the layer channel in FL rather then some VST plugin.

From FL help file:
"The Layer channel does not produce any sound by itself - it is instead used to control a set of other layers.

Playing a note on a Layer channel results in playing the same note on all children of that channel. This allows you to create complex instruments with different samples and envelopes assigned to key regions, or mix the sound of several generators in one instrument controlled by a single Layer channel."
