dude, there were people moving in NYC and that wanted to live in there.

Dubai is just a city in the middle of the desert, cut the electricy for one day and look how people will drop like mosquitos sprayed with some RAID.

Like I said before, I know people who want to work there some years to make some money, but to actually live there and raise a family?!!? no one is crazy enough to do that.

Ever heard of the cast system in there? Where Africans/Pakistanis are the lowest, Indians then, Arabic, Europeans and at the top North Americans just before the locals. If you get into a dispute with someone with a higher status/cast or worse a local, you're expulsed from the country in the next days. no thanks.

I don't know that much about the Emirates but in all honesty it just makes no sense...this rediculous amount of development in the middle of nowhere...I 100% agree with Malek's previous post

quote:
there's no doubt that they can build all those buildings and 10 times more... but they need companies and people to fill them.

Since you can't become a citizen, who's really intrested in moving in that place?? Going thru the hassle of renewing your resedency papers every 6 months? no thanks.

I mean it's still the middle east and you're still in the middle of the desert...I am sure (like Malek said) they can build develop or whatever anything they want, and I absolutely agree it looks UNREAL on paper...but it will all be empty.

You need some kind of crazy infrastructure (in terms of jobs, companies, and etc...)...Other than tourism and oil there's nothing there, there are no fundamental principles just looks like too much money being spent without thinking

i won't say that its spent without thinking... but there's way too much speed in this development...

anyone heard of Pyongyang? capital of North Korea? Its full with skyscrapers, even a 100 story hotel! But its all empty... barely anyone lives in the city. Its a showcase of what the North Koreans can do

Hmmm, what does that make me? Hung like an african, my name's common in pakistan, I love Indian food, I'm half Arabic, half european, raised and educated in North America. Does all this combined make me a super class?

North Korea's hardly capitalist.

Dubai will find it's niche in the world markets. Not right away but eventually. It'll definately be a service based city, we just don't know what service yet.....

Lets speculate what Dubai's good for. Forget the oil, they're banking on Location. So they become a world travel hub, but how much revenue can flight connections bring? And sooner or later, all planes won't need to connect simply because of fuel capacity and better fuel efficiency. There goes their terminal hub money. Now what? Hmmmm, the middle eastern tech sector is dominated by Israel. Still nothing will compete with the US, Japan, Taiwan and even South Korea. Hotels and tourism? Well, they could draw alot of people looking for man made spectacles such as their buildings alone, and offer plenty of spa-like amenities, but c'mon, they'll never fill all those buildings with tourists. Hmmmmmm.....anybody else have any ideas?
