Maria Shavapova vs. Serena Williams

4-1 in the first set so far...

Maria is just dominating Serena so far... Serena is making a hell of a lot of forehand errors...

my hopes are high rigth now...

Federer goes down to Safin....sorry to all the Federer fans but I'm a Safin fan so...WOHOO for me

quote:
Marat Safin ended top-ranked Roger Federer's 26-match winning streak in a classic Australian Open semifinal, outlasting the defending champion 5-7, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (6), 9-7 in a dazzling 4 1/2-hour match.

And Maria Sharapova (AKA Super Hottie)...lost to the crazy Serena Williams (she doesn't even look human anymore...pure muscle...starting to remind me of a race horse )

wow, watched 5.5 hours of tennis last night. the davenport/dechy match wasn't over untill 3am!

i've been super impressed with the quality of the matches this year. everyone has really come to play and win. makes the matches so much fun to watch.

bummer about federer losing to safin, his game is so solid. i'll watch the rebroadcast this afternoon. at least it proves he is human - i was having doubts.

You got it... we have last nights Sharapova vs. Serena Williams
then we had Molik vs. Davenport (ppl are calling it "the match" of womens tennis for this tournament in 2005)

Speaking about the quality of play tho... Sharapova.. this girl has like NO real weakness... her game is unbelieveable, only made MORE unbelieve able when you think she's only 17 (!!!!). Can you imagine keeping it together in a grand slam semi final at the age of 17 agaist prolly the most powerfull womens play out there who used to just DOMINATE the courts ???? Like last night, it soooo appeared Sharapova was getting to Serena... esp. in the first set, and early in the 2nd... serena just seemed so preoccupied .. yet she wasnt getting to Sharapova at all! Sharapova was just very focused..

Speaking of her game tho.. for being as freakin tall as she is, 6'0".. she moves like someone WAY shorter... that girl is so freaking athletic... she just moves around that court so easily... many very tall players have problems with their movements on courts (when generally compared to short, average height players)... but sharapova is one of the best in terms of running around balls.. AND she lvoes to go to net, get those serve and volley points, whihc we dont see much these days! You almost see her really "looking" for a reason to come to net... where most other plays really almost actively avoid having to come to net! Maria's serve too is phenominal.. even her 2nd serve is usually over 100mph... she's just willing to go for the big points and take chances, even when facing break points . She great at those cross court points and consistent always sends balls right up the line . Shes just not afraid to go for those big shots, which is refreshing to see (many players, men adn women, only take those big shots only when its not really a gamble)

in short, maria's game is off the hook and im very disapointed she wasnt able to repeat her first set and DESTROY the monkey sister in straight sets... her loss hurts!

Im not bummed about it at all, but ur right, it DOES prove that hes still human bc he has been just DOMINATING and KILLING everyone else in men's tennis... a hitch has finally been thrown into his game!
With federer out, hewitt or roddick, either has a much greater chance now to take this open... im not sure who im betting on or cheering for.. i like both players, but roddick more.. but it IS the australian open... so id really like to see Lleyton take it... but also, i really want Roddick to get some more Grand slam titles under his belt... so im kinda split even 50-50... i personally dont think safin is gonna stop either one of those two (even tho he did knock out federer)
