When i stop in the grocery eisle to get a can of something and people are to the left of me and the person behind me almost knocks me over then i get pissed off. Its a grocery store, not a corridor. If you are in a hurry then dont walk down a busy grocery eisle. Otherwise i agree with not likeing people who stop in the middle of a mall or are oblivious to others. But when at a store the rules are a bit different.
Especially knowing that these people are most likely in a hurry so they can get home and watch tv. RELAX!!
Which brings me to my real pet peeve. People who pretend they are busy when they arent. Somehow it has become uncool to admit that you are at home doing nothing. I know people who answer the phone and tell people they are busy and will call them back when they are watching tv!! Or people who brag about how busy they are. My reaction is usually "whoa u need to slow down a bit". I will always try to avoid overload. Life is too stressful when you are always trying to act busy.
I guess society is so fixated on money that being at home or enjoying free time is seen as being counter productive and therefore uncool. It means you aren't making money.

The whistle is used as a sign of respect for the DJ. This is especially true at junglist parties. It's hayday was back at the old warehouse parties where the MCs would even get on the mic and yell out for the "whistle posse to make some noise". It's rave cultures way of cheering for the DJ. Since rave culture has moved into clubs you will find whistles at clubs that play dance music. Especially when you go overseas. It still exists. I have tonnes of current live club mixes with all kinds of whistles in the background. To me it adds to the experience and raises the hype.
Since most Toronto crowds are pretty flat in the last few years though i dont think whistles here make a difference anymore unfortunately. However if you have any respect for the history of what you are doing you wont complain about somebody with a whistle. Since they are so few and far between now anyways you always have the option of moving to somewhere else.

Cool thanks for the 411 Jayx1. I also think it adds to the whole rave experience and have many live sets where whistles are blown during the intro or during the build-up of a track as people get excited.
Hulla always used to hand out whistles... |
I think a lot of newer partiers just dont get it. Whats sad is how whistlers get treated. Partying used to be about live and let live. Now you get people whining about everything that other people do. Smoking, whistling, waving flags, dancing "too crazy", etc etc
STFU and dont go to clubs if all these things bother you so much!
