I think what Jay was saying was that if a woman is in such a miserable state that she can't walk 10 extra feet to the store, then she's clearly not in any state to be shopping (where she'll undoubtedly be walking hundreds of feet) and probably not in a state to be driving either (where she'll be a danger to other people on the road if she's behind the wheel and might go into labour any minute). The point is not that pregnant women should be bedridden. The point is exactly the opposite - if they're able-bodied enough to shop, then they're able-bodied enough to walk through the parking lot.
For grocery stores, I can kinda see the point, because most Dads are incapable of doing the grocery shopping and the (expectant) moms HAVE to be there; but for a mall, where clearly the only purpose in being there is LEISURE, it doesn't make much sense.
But hey, the parking lots are private property and if the malls want to have special parking for expectant mothers, that's their perogative, and I'll respect those property rights and not park in them. But I happen to agree that they're a stupid idea, especially when there are over 50 of them in the parking lot of a huge mall (*cough*Yorkdale*cough*).
