Took that last night at peak time.

before i got these plugs, my headphone pot would be at about 12 o clock on the dial (if you imagine its a clock face).

In fact, the dj that works there on other nights has it at 1 o clock.

Look how much lower it is with these things!
Think about it, thats about half the level on the pot, and then - another 15 dB which makes it pretty comfortable level wise.

That's insane.. had a similar experience where the previous DJ had the headphone volume at 1-2 o clock (he had pretty crappy headphones as well, probably not isolating very much). I was comfortable with 8-9 o clock..

Buying ear protection is definately my smartest investment since I started djing..

Just to echo earlier comments on this thread to say the ER15's are amazing! Mine arrived a few days ago and the difference when wearing them is incredible. As someone used to wearing cheap earplugs which only serve to muffle sound, these really reduce noise across all frequencies and make music much clearer.

I'd been warned that it takes a while to get used to mixing while wearing these but I've just tried a mix and, if anything, found it slightly easier. Everything clearer without being uncomfortably loud. Of course, that's in a home environment: the real test will come this weekend when I play club gigs.

I'd wholeheartedly recommend these to anyone considering hearing protection. It's a lot of money to spend but well worth it IMO. Will feed back again after the weekend when I've played out.

thanks for the info everyone...i'm seriously considering getting some. i have plugs that cost me about $20 and they are uncomfortable and they stick out and rub on the headphones so i never wear them.

those look really comfortable....

Hmmm I don't understand how you can reduce the headphone volume when you have the earplugs in, considering the plugs reduce the level by 15 db. I would have thought you'd be using the same headhone level or maybe even more.
