The car's name comes from the astonishing feat survived by the offspring of the Koenig immediately after they are hatched.
The Koenig lays its eggs mid-flight, which often leads to a several hundred foot drop back down to earth.
Surprisingly, the eggs always survive the blistering speeds and final contact with the ground.
Thus, a car which can attain and comfortably survive such speeds would aptly be named Koenig's Egg (Koenigsegg).
