,if you could just tell me how i would go about it im ,using soft synths and a sequencer ,

i would just need something like a ruff draft and i could just build my own Psych tunes from it.

thanks

Take acoustic or synth bass tones turn the vibrato delay down to - 20 or so and turn the Vibrato depth up. The longer you hold a note the more twisted it gets. turn the cut-off frequency way down and the resonance up. This should add some grainy filth to it. run it through distortion filters, delays and (wah, phaser etc...)and lo- fi filters. I find that f minor chord progressions are paticulary sinister. for those bubbling 303's double over each note and set pitch/key for each set of tones and add the effects/filters.
the new progressive psy trance I've been hearing is fscking awesome.
All the headline psy dj's spin hard full on So you don't hear much prog psy or breakbeat psy. Have fun peace!

so basically psy can be both rhythmn driven with funky bass line
and trippy acid synths and loops ,but at the same time you can layer it with ,melodic arps with lots of chord progression.

never copy

you sound like you want all the answers before you start.... if you just copy someone then you are just going to sound the same and not stand out at all. the software you have is more than enough but you need to get to know it so draw in some notes and loop it and play with all the parameters of your synth to see what each one does to the sound....break down some psy trance tunes and see how they are structured.... learn of the proffessional.... after breaking down a few tunes and using there tune as a template you will have a firm base to writing ure own

its all about structure.... p.s have fun you will get there

i agree with you i wasn't really asking for all the answers just what synths to use ,there are so many different genres of trance and i just want to focus on the one i feel i have the best feel and grasp for...but yeah i do have all the tools once i experiemnt with some different sounds ,i will make my own original work.

thanks

Psy is about mangling sound. So a synth with a good modulation matrix would be a good place to start. That will let you do things like patch the LFO through to pitch and filters for example.

Albino has a decent one and is extremely easy to use, though its filters sound a bit weak imho for psy trance, so you might want to combine it with something like Antares Filterbank. Absynth lets you do some pretty amzing things with envelopes and such and is just a great synth for trippy swooshy soundscape effects... perfect for psy fx.

Moog modular might be worth a look too. I havnt tried it, but it looks like the real deal for modulating sounds.

Psy is less forulaic than uplifting trance, so dont try and set down too much of a structure.. just experiment away, get a good beat and bassline going first and start layering stuff.
