Ya umm U2 is one of the most important bands from the past 25 years bar none and most of there music does have political implications. Just because you don't like it because its rock doesn't mean it isn't important and or hasn't had a major cultural impact now turning down a remix for someone of that caliber isn't usually a good idea because by being assoiciated with someone like that it in turn enhances your own reputation giving you more oppurtunities etc.

people don't care about the chart, because its a popularity contest. The tracks were not made last year, so the +5 does not matter.

93,000 voted in the chart in 2005. Mylo has sold more albums than the total number of votes for every DJ in the poll. And think how many of those voted for the Top 10 DJs alone. The DJ Mag poll doesn't prove jack shit.

1. He's a producer more than a DJ. Like Norman Cook. Norman DJ'd to 300,000 people at one gig last year, yet he's better known as a producer. Norman Cook is better known than anyone in the whole chart, yet nobody votes for him.

2. He's only been well-known for the past 6-9 months. DJ Mag poll held in September- 8 months ago, just as Mylo starts to become popular.

3. Mylo is still best known in the UK because he is such a new act. Majority of DJ Mag votes = American.

Dude...regardless of who you are, the Chemical Brothers, Sasha, PvD or whichever established EDM artist out there, the bottom line is if you remix a band like U2 or any other HUGE band like them, you will get heard in other places outside forums like these or places where only EDM fans attend. The exposure you get out of this (and I repeat: this does not mean you're selling out) is something you can only achieve in years of producing track after track.

Mylo is doing the festival circuit this year. Thousands of indie rock fans will hear him. Compare that to a U2 remix most non-EDM fans will never encounter. Also, it may bring some new popularity to a name, but Mylo is too big a name for a U2 remix to "make or break" his career. Same applies for all the names you mentioned. Whether or not they remix U2 won't significantly alter their popularity.

He's only been around for about three years, and he spent two of those making his album.

But yeah, I guess no one gets the point of how non-special this band is. All of us who've bought their records throughout all these years must be wrong and have no taste in music...I guess.

They don't seem that important to me, but whatever! I can see the reason why they've kept releasing stuff for 25 years, they're making lots and lots and lots of money

Really though, they are to rock what Tiesto is to trance, people new to the genre or don't have much of a clue all love them because everybody else does, but they don't realise they're nothing special, like with Tiesto's dodgy mixing, the music in the U2 songs isn't great, like in Beautiful Day and Sometime's You Can't Make It On Your Own (I can't really comment on any of their very old stuff as I haven't heard it all, but from what I hear they were a lot better back then), simple basslines and guitars etc. The new material's lyrics are at best average, and the guitars in the 2 latest singles are the same! Fancy effects etc can make the riff to Vertigo sound cool but its all very basic really, the same with Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own although there's not really a big riff in that track. Anyway I don't really have much time to write a very long essay on this so I'll keep it short.

U2 ride on the hype and status they've created in the past with some pretty good records and keep it going with very average material and lots of promotion on TV and radio etc (see All That You Can't Leave Behind, urgh), but nothing to make them the "legend" that they are at the moment, with a massive world tour that they charge £80 a ticket for. If they had lots of great songs on the standard of "Free Bird" by Lynard Skynard then fair enough I'd love them, but as I said earlier with really average music and lyrics there's so many more bands I'd rather listen to than U2 eg The Smiths, The Clash, Jimi Hendrix, New Order and Joy Division, Interpol, Pixies and many many others.
