This isn't news at all...

patio smoking bans and banning smoking in enterances is brand new. It has nothing to do with the law that was just passed.

so assuming there wasnt a law against drunk driving...if ppl wanted to drink and drive you would be all for it right? it shouldnt affect the rest of us because we don't have to take the same highway, route, road etc as them right? ...do you know what you are really saying? do you really wanna go down this road? ( no pun intended)

catching a whiff of someones smoke from a patio is not comparable to drinking and driving at all. however there are those who will using the possibility of drunk driving to curb your drinking habits or to try and ban alcohol completely just because they dont think u should be drinking. Think various religious organizations or "moralistic people" who think they know better. This is why i cannot support MADD as an organization. They have also gone beyond stopping drinking and driving and actually mandate prohibition as their end goal. Im all for protecting others but not when laws are created on presumptions.

Im also all for stopping second hand smoke in most cases. But they went too far when they took away the right to choose from people who are 19 and older in licenced bars and clubs. No one ever forced non smokers into no essential entertainment areas. Now that a comprimise was reached that wasnt even good enough. bye bye smoking rooms (where non smokers never have to go) and now that this has happened EVEN THIS is not good enough... now it has to be outdoors as well?

Dont worry once they are done with smoking they will use drunk driving as a crutch to push for prohibition even if the possibility of getting hurt by a drunk driver is lower than getting hit by a bus.

it's interesting to note how societies balance themselves out eventually. I think we reached the peak of our freedoms several decades ago to be honest...maybe in the 70s-80s. It seems like all governments (especially here) just want to pull the bar down again on civil liberties.

I find the Ontario Liberals' position on this issue entirely contradictory and even a little eccentric. There is no need to dictate that people can't smoke outside but they will push and push and probably eventually get it. Unless of course, they are voted out of office. McSquinty won't be getting my vote again, but not just because of the smoking issue.

I watched him and saw how he handled questions and flip flopped repeatedly. I knew not to trust this guy from the first time he ran back in 1999.

actually I think I ripped that one off from somebody on here.

At the time, McSquinty seemed like a better alternative to the Harris-minded Tories under Ernie Eve. John Tory comes off as different so I might give him a shot.
