listing a bunch of team is like "sitting on the fence" in a debate, your not really picking 1 team to win just listing a bunch of the top teams in the world(which anyone who follows football would be aware off) |
If i picked one and say: they will be the winners, that would mean nothing at all since the knockout rounds always provide some surprises. A certain team may be clearly the strongest but with only a bad draw, an injury crisis and 2 below average games and they're out. That's why Porto and Liverpool won the last 2 seasons, a double group stage really gave an advantage to the favourites, now the underdogs have more of a chance.
I know I'm getting way out of the argument we were having, but I'd just like to say I fully agree with the current format of the tournament. You get a good bunch of the top teams in Europe by letting 3 or 4 teams from certain countries, the level of competition is really high. Teams need to prove they're mildly regular by qualifying in the group stage. Then we get the chaos of the knockout. The only thing that is lacking is the old concept of needing to be the champions to qualify, this isn't truly the "champions" league. But this way the competition is better for the spectators, more great games.
