The trickiest things are that double negatives are mandatory and how much of an effect tense has on a sentence.

reviving this thread, cos yesterday I got asked by my boss if I'd consider moving to Capetown for 12 months. I've been there for work 10 times already, but the longest stay so far has been 6 weeks, and half that was holidays. Back again for 2 weeks at the end of august.
The biggest if on any move is my wife, and how she'd fit in there. there's not a lot of chinese culture in capetown, although she's largely aussie as well.
Can any locals give a decent idea on how women see the crime levels there? being 6ft and male, i probably don't feel as intimidated as a 5ft female would in most places.
and to confuse things further, the director of the company that owns this one asked me today to go to america instead, but that doesn't appeal much. 90% of the work in SA is in CT, the US clients are spread everywhere, so I'd be on the road too much.

Can't really say much about crime levels in Cape Town as I've only been there for a week and a half but I always thought it depended heavily on the part of town you're in..

Either way, I'd LOVE to go and live there for a while.. Too bad my job probably won't give me that opportunity. Closest I'm coming at the moment is a three day business trip to Austria

Lived there for the first 19 years of my life, and spent the last 3 years there heavily into the clubbing scene.

Surprisingly, nothing bad ever happened to me.

Simply put, don't walk around solo at night, keep your car doors locked at all times, and stay away from the dodgy areas.

Should be fine

i've never had any problems myself, apart from car stereo getting nicked on night (but that was a rental so didn't bug me much). many late night drinking sessions in claremont and long street, and never really felt unsafe, but it's probably quite different for females.
