Though Ishkur may have a difference in opinion in musical genre preference with most of us, his posts in this thread have been A-class.
CDs are a pro for trance djs because the idea is the same, just mixing between track A and track B with less package space needed.
however,
CDs are a con for turtablists because its between an
(a) authentic 'needle-vinyl' scratch or
(B) an artificial scratch reproduced by a cdj or some software. aka it does not sound as good and is not as accurate as the real deal.
it's a no brainer for turtablists who scratch right now.
And I haven't seen anybody bring up the vinyl vs. cd sound quality issue. Because that would be plain and simple bullshit.

New tracks are available months and months earlier on cd until they are pressed up onto vinyl.
Its my opinion that this is one of the reasons why the big names are playing cds more and more, in order to play the most upfront tracks etc. Obviously not the only reason, but from what i've read in this thread, this hasn't been mentioned yet....

Dave Clarke
Judge Jules
Pete Tong
Erick Morillo
Paul van Dyk
Pretty sure Deep Dish didn't play any vinyl, here in Denver, this past weekend. Not sure that's always the case, but they're obviously leaning more towards cds now.

Nice to see this thread stayed on track.
Ferry almost always uses CD's now. I have seen him whack the vinyl out a few times for certain classics though.

I think that in a very short period of time, pretty much all djs are going to switch. It is an ongoing trend that is only getting bigger. On top of that, many djs are starting to realize that cd's or mp3's can be manipulated in ways that could never be done with vinyl. I think that can only be considered an advantage.

I play a lot on cd now, because you can't play a lot of tracks on record that aren't released yet, but I still prefer vinyl in a lot of ways. I can't say that I'd never switch completely, but there are some advantages to vinyl.

The only dj's who should (if at all) be critisised for using cdj's or other software should be the ones who when using vinyl couldnt mix at all then! Sasha (wether you like it or not) is infamous for his mixing abilities so why should him using Abelton be a problem? Yes it does beatmatch automatically but i mean he is considered one of the best mixers out there, so isnt it time that he tries to excel in other parts of djing now? We all know he can mix amazingly so its not like he switched to Abelton because he has lost the ability all of a sudden is it?
You cant force someone to like dj's such as Zabelia or Hawtin because they use cdj's/software but it just gives them more to play with and experiment with. Vinyl only dj's can only rely on their mixing skills to entertain a crowd at the end of the day, whereas the so called 'traitor' dj's can do far more

You are completely wrong there's no ongoing trend. The majority still plays vinyl. It's going to take decades before you see a trend where the majority of people will choose the cd option. All those manipulating things you said can do on cd's can be done on vinyl you gotta have the skill. Too all those thinking cd's are better because of their features i say this, the thing isn't about features it's still the music in the end don't let it overshadow the music in the end think about it. Vinyls are still the easiest way getting in beatmatching etc.

DJ's can send around their newest stuff to each other and burn straight to CD , without havng to wait for a vinyl press.
