You have to get the approval of all the authorities to throw these parties, not merely a permit from some beurocratic city office.

Just my POV

I have gathered alot of quotes from people about this topic:

they just go on and on, this is a very popular topic in the forums at the moment, most of the quotes I took appear to be coming from veteran partyers scattered around different message boards.

But you have to admit that large-scale raves are a lot more commonplace in Canada than in the US.

Therefore, why the difference in police attitude and public perception?

Because Canada never had a Ronald Reagan(actually more like Nancy Reagan)

Anyone still have one of those green "Just Say No" T-shirts?

Canadians don't worry about drugs, they don't worry about menacing social movements, generally people over there are more docile and shit doesn't go wrong so much so they can get away with that because life over there is different. The environment in Canada is just more conducive to large scale drug infested partying, and they seem to act more responsible about it over there than we do over here.

There is always the argument that things wouldn't be so wild in America if things were legal, if kids didn't feel like they were rebelling against the establishment by going to one of these parties. There is a hysteria associated with drugs in America that doesn't exist in Canada or many other places, and for that you can blame Nancy Reagan.

Here is the link to the video:

http://infranation.net/facism.wmv

(I didn't name the video, nor am I the one to have hosted it or created it).

In terms of drugs, it is fully up to the person doing it. Cigarettes and Alcohol are very harmful to people if abused, yet they are still legal. Every person I know who smokes started before they were 18. I dont know any people who started smoking after 18. It is 'rebel' related. There is a lot that could and should be done which is drug-law related, but it wont until a whole generation dies.

It really is a shame that humans learn so much when they are just babies. Parents can instill good AND bad values into their children. Too bad people can't be born with basic moral values, and learn everything else themselves so they get their own opinion about things instead of what their parents have told them throughout their lives.

This IS getting off the track though, so back on it. Watch the video, and watch the beating.

I love hear all this criticism from my Canadian neighbors, its hilarious coming from Canadians, I'll debate Europe but Canada? Europe is something else, but at least they're something. They have a culture and an ideology that is their own. What is Canada exactly, a nation with nothing, simply a nation-state, no culture, no independent economy. They are North America's knock-off souvenir shop, great value nothing original - sorry, I forgot Tim Horton’s. If you decide to go to Canada, you can choose between Fake America and Fake France. I recommend the latter; unless you are from France, than go to Fake America. There are no problems in Canada because there is nothing their. They make no mistakes because they don't do anything. The proof lies in their money; they have so few original things that they have actually been able to include them all on the face of their currency.
So, in thinking aboot it, Canada is actually so fake, it's original... so I take back what I said... go forth young Canadians you can now wear your leaves in pride!

I agree, not that America "won the War on Drugs". Any drive through any inner city screams "WE LOST". I do blame people who try to force their morality on everyone else, (and the rest of the world ) such as Pat Robertson, just as much as Reagon. Many people in this country
can't accept that the youth have their own culture, even though they had the hippy movement.

Also I think many of those cops who beat the shit out of kids would be too cowardly to go into South Central Los Angeles, or Inner City Baltimore and bust real drug dealers ( crack, heroin, meth, PCP ), rather than a bunch of suburban kids on a few happy pills, smoking some blunts. These police hid their faces because they knew what they were doing was wrong, and had way too much fun doing it.

Heres a website with more witness accounts, pictures, and video.

www.music-versus-guns.org

After the controversy after the U.S. Government under Nixon sent the National Guard in to shoot & kill Vietnam protesters at Ohio State University, our government was much more careful about how it handled large gatherings until recently. What the authorities did in Utah is illegal, and all people involved should loose their job over this, and face criminal charges also. I hope that county looses alot of tourism which they depend on over this, so the polititians there don't get re- elected.

Oh please, that's the video I already saw. Facism?!? What a fucking joke. There was no beating on that video. If you saw it your mind is playing tricks on you. Someone was forced to the ground by the cops and arrested. Happens everyday. We shouldn't have to treat criminals with fucking kid gloves. What are the authorities supposed to do when they are making arrests in a large open area? "Please, don't run away...slow down...we just want to arrest you for possible felony charges."

One thing in our constitution is: Innocent til proven guilty!

Now how many people there as a percentage of everyone really got arrested, and how many will be convicted? Not enough, so the police had to make up bogus charges like resisting arrest. There is no excuse for this, and I can't believe any "Tranceaddict" would be pro "Lets go run over a bunch of ravers with the military. Come on,can you really support both EDM music, and the government there trying to destroy our own scene there by force. Obviously there is a pretty large scene there that the local & state government wanted to destroy, because alot of people went to that event. All the blame the victom mentality here - that's as stupid as a woman getting blamed for rape for wearing a mini skirt. Come on. Are you really implying that other music scenes don't have drugs, that would be like me saying everyone that listens to country does meth and is an alcoholic. Lets go send the National Guard to go bust up a Clint Black concert because people might be doing meth there.

After your comments, I'm really not suprised Blacksburg, Virginia doesn't have much of a EDM scene.
