Most vocals in trance are for gays, so I don't listen to it.

but I like 'clear blue water'

Great track, especially the Ferry Corsten Remix.

I think it all depends on the song and the particular vocals. Take "In my memory" by Tiesto....that song is just fukin amazing...the original and remix (not sure which one). The soft female vocals are pretty much pivotal to the entire song. Probably my all time favourite trance song is "Heaven's Earth"(matt darey remix) by Delerium. Again, that song pretty much relies on the vocals (even though they're ridiculously high and i don't understand everything she's saying, makes it all the more interesting..) despite the amazing melodies. Those are good examples of trance songs with lyrics that work really well. Take "Let the light shine in"-darren tate vs. jono grant(another one of my faves), you put lyrics in that song and it's garbage. But yeah I agree that the female vocals work best.

But the reason I like them so much is because I can sing with them. You all my have sucky voices, but mine is fine. Singing the song is the closest you can possibly get to the song without being it (which is impossible). All those times where there is a perfect musical buildup and want to jump right into the song....when there are vocals you can jump about 85% in and start singing, otherwise you're left longing for more, wishing you were the song. I find songs with vocals (even if the words suck) to be simply more satisfying than purely instrumental tracks. If the vocals musically complement the music, then they've just added another layer of feeling. Thats why they're there.

I don't agree. Vocals I feel, make us more susceptible to bias before we even push the play button. They deplete all or maybe most imagination. What I find so profound of electronic music is its ability to create such emotion minus the humane characteristics of a human voice. I could give you, just as well as everyone else could, instrumental tracks that successfully mimic the warm tonality to a point you can feel what is being said without Sarch Mclachlan having to tell you.

99.9% of trance vocals are terrible, vacuous lyrics that ruin the chances of a song. Is it really acceptable when the best you can do is "tolerable"?

I can't think of a single trance song where I actually like the lyrics... there's one I've been digging recently, but it's more like electro: Spies & Holeg feat. BAKXII - Lost in Darkness (Fuzzion Remix)... killer song but is it even trance?

Electronic music and especially trance is supposed to go beyond language straight into your core... fill it up with frilly nonsense about "you make me wanna fly" and what you have is utter garbage.

sometimes its fun to have a break from standing there stroking your chin and/or other body parts analyzing the track and determining whether its cool to say i like this artist or not and sing along

yah, i find that generally vocal tracks seem to have less layers, and less noise". I like that. However, if u got rid of the vocals, and still didn't have the extra layers in the background, it'd be shit.

the vocals help make up for the less layers...

If done well, vocals are good. But sometimes it's hard to tell whether a track is better, with or without vocals:

Jono Grant (and some other guy, forgot his name)- Let the Light Shine in (vocal version).

Vs

Jono Grant (and some other guy, forgot his name) - Let the Light shine in (Tiesto Nyana version)...

^
i honestly can't decide in that case... both are 2 of the best tracks i've ever heard.
