amsterdam nightlife
we are recommending:
Club More
the place to go if you can get in
Probably the trendiest club in Amsterdam with a nasty door policy to match. If you don't look good, you don't get in. Only the crème de la crème of Dutch celebrities and the coolest clubbers are allowed to blend in with the lurid white and pink décor. Wide range of nights throughout the week: High Tech Soul on Thursdays, Speed Garage on Fridays, Saturday's infamous Techno orgy by Club Risk.
Rozengracht 133 (528 74 59)
Open Wed-Sun 10pm-3/4am. Cover f15.
The Mazzo
small, friendly and chilled out
Has a relaxed and groovy door policy where all are welcome. Although quite small, the atmosphere inside is always uplifting. Music is a blend of techno and progressive house, guaranteed to keep you rooted to the dance floor. The crowd may not be the best looking in Amsterdam, but what they lack in style they make up for in enthusiasm.
Rozengracht 114 (626 75 00), open Wed-Sun 11pm-4/5am, admission f12,50 - f20 (terrible)

Soul Kitchen
ride the retro soul train
Gloria Gaynor, Rose Royce and Shalamar - they're all here. The sprit of the 60's and 70's is brought back to life in a venue apparently cast off from the set of Austin Powers. Every night is a swinging maelstrom of disco, soul and r&B, so think flares and platforms.
Amstelstraat 32 (620 23 33). Open Wed-Sun 11pm-4am (5am weekends), admission f10.
Escape/Chemistry
big and beautiful
The largest of Amsterdam clubs, packed to the rafter with 2000+ gurning clubbers and regular host for some of the better International DJ's. Rarely lives up to the hype. Door policy sometimes schizoid. Just because you can't get in, doesn't mean it's good.
Rembrandtplein 11 (622 1111). Open Tue 8pm-1am, Wed-Sun 11pm-4/5am, admission f15-f35.
