Yes very hard, the fact is that it's all just a matter of pulling here or pushing there. More like Digital Clay but it just involves a more technical approach.
I mean if you design a face, you pull the ears out and pull the nose and push in the eye sock, thats the basic shape, then you have to basically push and pull some more here and there and also smooth the polygons to add more detail. Then you add alpha mapping to it which basically adds those finer details like wrinkles or spots and stuff.
It's hard at first, but the more you do it, its actually very fun.
This is more Organic modelling. If you want to model a plane, then you have to do box modelling which is basically a cube and you extrude faces here and there and make the shape of the plane or any object.
This is just one part of 3D. The other hard ones are Dynamics which makes you understand about the forces involved in a scene such as gravity, wind etc.
