Nah, alot of GM's mid sized cars from the 80's and 90's with the 2.8/3.1 V6 will go 300,000 with no serious problems. Its simply a good engine. My bro's mother in law has a 95 Grand Am closing in on 400,000. Same with Buick's 3.8 V6, very very good rep.

Like I said in a previous post, GM can do things right when they actually try...they just dont try too often.

my dream car

This car was the invention of SVT chief engineer, John Coletti, and his team, who sought to bring old school to the new school. They achieved this by dropping a BOSS 429 engine into the body of a 1994 SVT Mustang Cobra. The car made 855 horsepower, 790 lb.-ft., and it ran 0-60 in 1.9 seconds, 0-100 in 5.5 seconds, and the quarter-mile in 10.55 seconds @ 135.05 mph. The Boss Mustang is the ultimate cruising machine that can hold its own on the drag strip.

This is EXACTLY my whole point. Both my parents work(ed) in
the Big 3 in Windsor for 25+ yrs, so we always had GM or Chrysler.

They WANT their economy cars to be shit so you have to buy another
in 10 yrs or less. Of course they CAN make/engineer them better,
but they choose not to. The higher end vehicles can be and ARE great.

This is quite possibly the worst business idea ever these days. People don't come back to buy from the same company that sold them a piece of shit, no matter how cheap it was. That is of course, unless they're fucking braindead. It seriously blows my mind why people bought Crapaliers and Slumfires, which are arguably the worst cars ever made.

I'd love a slightly used Yaris RS 5 door that's taken the depreciation hit. I have a thing for hatchbacks.

But it worked, particularly when selling to their employess.
The 10% discount was all my parents remembered thru the yrs....

Happily they've evolved from that thinking

Disagree.

The car was in production for over a decade. By the end of that decade *all* problems/defects were sorted out, tons of parts were available via yards and the cost was $13k for a loaded coupe.

Buying one of those vehicles from the final few years of production was an AMAZING value (esp. from a TCO perspective).

I worked for a company that provided adhesive to tier two automotive suppliers (the company uses our adhesive to make a part which is in turn sold to the automobile manufacturer). I can tell you now that there are some cuts on the drawing board for some upcoming models of American cars that will further deteriorate quality in an effort to cut costs.

I've had my 1993 Olds 98 for nearly 6 years now and with nearly 200,000 miles I can say that I've got my money's worth big time. Its been a pleasure driving this car and in the process putting nearly 100,000 miles on it myself. Numerous trips to Toronto, NYC, Washington DC, Pittsburgh, State College, Baltimore, Ohio, New Jersey, this thing has been all over the place.

I will be in a position to buy another car in about a year.. would like to buy North American, but the Audi is calling my name...

Whatever saw it coming from a mile away ........

People at those plants get paid 30 plus an hour... To do jobs that can be done for less than one tenth of that abroad. Come on.
What do you expect.

Thank the unions. Next people should think twice before fighting for higher wages.

P.S. American cars suck

OH GOD do I EVER have to agree with you on this matter man.

If you look at the wages for the avg. GM employee compared to the avg. Toyota or Honda employee, you'll see QUITE the difference.

Its crazy. I just saw on television last night a segment on these cut-offs.

One of the employees who was gonna likley be laid off work at a guy whose job it was to drive the cars from the shop after they'd been completed, out onto the lot. Wanna guess how much he made a year????

$70,000

Wow.

Also....... I feel sorry for a great many of the Delphi (the largest auto parts company in the US) employees on pensions. They said it was something like FIVE BILLION WORTH of the pension liabilities are UNFUNDED!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy shit - ALOT of ppl are gonna be very likley down and out re: the pensions hey thought they had coming to them........
