Ok so every kind of house music can be play by you. What's your influence?? Or which Dj/producer are you listening to?

I can't single out one DJ/producer...I think it's too early 4 me 2 narrow it down to 1...I'm listening to a lot of good stuff; this I know 4 sure:

Funky: Mark Farina, Frankie Knuckles, Steve Porter, DJ Dan, Fred Everything, (MTL Talent: King Louis, DJ Kal...)

Dark: John Digweed, Steve Lawler, Sven Vath, Danny Howells, Satoshi Tomiie, Hernan Cattaneo, James Zabiela, James Holden, (MTL Talent: Maus...)

Sander Kleinenberg just plays sexy proggy house...so good...

As u can see, I haven't found my personal style yet (I just started lol!) but I love Farina and Digweed, probably my top 2 from either extreme side of the house music spectrum. Digweed kills it with his basslines and his technical abilities and Farina is just too good to be true imo...

I adore Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell, Tiefschwarz, Trentemoller...

I think that's enough lol...

If you're looking for buying records, i recommand you Da Muzz, it's a dj shop on st-catherine street corner Papineau. You can find there a good choice of house music and there's a section where you can find vinyl at 3$!!!

Selecting your style will come with time, especially when u purchase decks, u are going to start filtering out more and more types that you will like at first and then quickly get bored of. Im reaching a point right now (after more then a year of spinning) where i found exactly what i wanna spin and im just spending time looking for tracks to flow. Lots of wasted money on vynils but hey, i loved and love every single moment of it.

But... i guess this might not apply to every dj.

^^ agreed

and I don't think you need a musical background to DJ. Many people do but it's not necessary.

Music background is important, maybe not in djing but definitly in producing!

I don't think a music background is essential to have as a producer either. It's nothing you can't learn as you go. Many people learn a lot from DJing before they get to producing anyways.

True...it's all something you can learn as you go but having it (the musical background) from the start just seems like one less thing to worry about in the future...

I know I love house music enough to dance to it and more importantly, to feel it. Now it's just a matter of time, effort and concentration until I know it well enough to be able to make it my own sound
