The only problem with projector LCDs is that the blacks are washed out.

For bigass TVs, it seems that plasma is the way to go.

Is it worth getting a TV that is native 1080p? (1080p TV's are obviously more money) At the moment there isn't much that is 1080p, but it will be coming.

Wow Sony loves to inflate their prices. Didn't pay nearly that much.

The spec that should concern you the most if you're trying to fit as much as possible on the screen at once is the resolution. CRT's give you much better resolutions at lower prices than LCDs or plasmas. One suggestion would be to look at multiple monitors, which I think your vid card would support (I want to say it has 2 outputs). I personally run 2 19" CRTs at 1600x1200 each, giving me an overall resolution of 3200x1200 which let's me have usually up to around 8-10 windows up and in a usuable size. Those two CRT's cost me less than 700, which you could easily pay for 1 19" LCD that would do only 1280x1024.

Here's an example to the extreme, this apparently is a guy that has 6 LCD's connected to 4 video cards all in one machine.

Oh, almost forgot, I got this tv as a present, and bang for your buck you can't beat it. Quality isn't the best, but it's decent, blacks and dark colours are hard to pick out sometimes without turning up the black levels and starting to wash out the colours, but it fits my needs. It has both a DVI and a VGA 15 pin port which makes it a snap for me to hook up my laptop to to watch movies I d/l or when I get around to building a media pc to have permanently connected.

You don't pay the premium you would for sharp and sony, but granted you lose a bit of picture quality, and trust me, it's noticeable if you've seen both, but not enough to detract from the price. Also, other pricier models also don't always come with a DVI or a VGA port, making it less useful as a computer monitor. Decent as a monitor, but you'll need powerstrip to create your own resolution as daytek doesn't release drivers for the tv.
