Maybe we should listen to Paulie.

He liked trance and now seems to frequent house venues. What attracts him to house

Here it is Dr.P

I go dr.P, cause i get to dress up, i get to go to packed venues, where i dont necessarily know everyone in the place, i get to dance and put up a sweat. Its about vibe, numbers, the quality of your crowd...I aint going to be going to events where little gimps like skoom and co. are let in...Im 23 ffs, as much as i hate to admit the crowd does influence me and my mates, and the kind of night were having...Dont get me wrong the music counts as well, but considering most of us are sheep, if you can get the other stuff right, the music matters less and less. Hard Trance and this Nrg shit has a lot to do with where the state of trance is atm imo. Take nothing away from the music, but like it or not it has affected the music scene and alienated the normal punter...

That's me in the corner, That's me in the spotlight, I'm Losing my religion, Trying to keep up with you ,And I don't know if I can do it, Oh no, I've said too much,I haven't said enough, I thought that I heard you laughing, I thought that I heard you sing, I think I thought I saw you try.

But that was just a dream, That was just a dream, But that was just a dream, Try, cry, why try? That was just a dream ,Just a dream, just a dream, Dream

You know Paulie I though you'd say something like that.

You are 100% right though.

There you go Scottie thats what the scene needs. I have no idea how you would build it up. Good luck.

House and RnB are the mainstream with the hits being plastered all over commercial radio. Thats another big reason their respective club scenes thrive.

this is very true.

if i had a dollar for every time i'd attempted to work with or get to know (personally or professionally) someone on this forum only to be f'd off, disinvited, ignored, have them run off with my girlfriend, etc, i'd have enough money to buy a toupee.

I wonder how many other people like me come along full of enthusiasm and energy, running from one person to the next saying 'yo, want my help? what can i do? anything at all man, let me help you succeed because i like what you're doing!' just to be told 'no man, I don't need your help, thanks'.

I agree with your sentiment.
I've certainy found my good nature and enthusiasm taken advantage of and that has really made me less frequent to events , sometimes my late shifts clash and my distance from the city plays a part, but it does start to put a sour taste in the mouth. I pride myself on being a nice bloke and having a genuine attitude and that un fortunately doesn't seem to go very far.

In terms of whats wrong with the scene i believe it is for two main reasons.
1) The need for a strong brand
2) The in fighting

Firtsly if you refer to something like ONE LOVE with John course etc... it pure and simply is a brand name, thats what tiesto is thats what gatecrasher is, it's a brand name. If you have a brand name with some local heros i think it will go vary far. You'll even attract the big guys at oracle and future.
This means locally signed producers. The big boys ferry, armin, tiesto etc... got big because of the tunes they produced. So i really think thats where the answer lies.
Midro is a local hero for the nrg scene because of his productions and media exposure, i'll count his mixed cds with that, punters see a brand name and folow it.
House is so big because of its branding, its marketed very well, its in the main stream airplay, it's marketed as a glamourous party destination for the beautiful people (that translates into chicks on the dance floor, which has a ripple effect- more guys, more drinks sold, more revenue). In the trance scene we haven't built a brand name strongly enough and we still don't have a lot of productions getting attention... big up to all the producers that are actually giving it a go...Big up to Trance Tribe Recordings...

The second reason is the in fighting.
If you have a brand that sells it attracts punters, the scene grows and then a lot more people can have a piece of the pie instead of the nasty in fighting we see over the diminishing scene we have on our hands. I believe having the scene grow through strong branding and media exposure will cause people to work towards something instead of fighting over what is already here. I think things are a little directionless.
