The mayor of Salt Lake City actually defended the movie against the theatre's decision to pull it in his speach!

Salt Lake City Mayor Calls for End to Homophobia

by Angela D’Amboise

Salt Lake City, UT - In assessing the quality of life in Salt Lake City during his State of the City address this week, Mayor Rocky Anderson used traditional arguments about a decrease in crime and the planned expansion of transit.

But the notoriously conservative city’s mayor ventured outside the box when he spoke of the status of gays and lesbians, declaring they are "consistently marginalized" and treated as "second-class citizens."

"Society's treatment of gays and lesbians has made life tragically difficult and painful for them, and has too often deprived our community of the valuable perspectives and resources they offer," Anderson said at City Hall during the start of his 50-minute speech.

Anderson started by pointing out the many strides the city has made toward acceptance. Last year, an executive order offering health insurance to city employees' domestic partners was passed and Anderson was named a top straight advocate for the gay community in 2005.

But he said the city still has obstacles to overcome, using the example of the recent cancellation of the movie Brokeback Mountain in a Salt Lake City suburb.

The mayor noted that the same theatre is showing Hostel, a film many critics have labeled as misogynistic and sadistic.

"Apparently some members of our community find this despicable, sick, women-hating film more acceptable than a beautifully rendered love story - on the sole ground that the people portrayed as loving each other are gay men," Anderson said.

Like the mayor, City Councilwoman Jill Remington Love is considered to be a gay advocate in the city. She said she agreed with the mayor's sentiment about the status of the gay community.

"Gay rights is the civil rights issue of our day," she said.

Isn't pretty much every movie that is not about two persons getting married and then later having kids living happily forever after an "anti family" movie though? Just look at the box office charts and see which movies really are "pro family" and then go figure!

Plus, why the hell does it matter? And what the hell is really "anti family", or even a family for that matter? You seem like the typical stupid homophobe to me!

My issue with the gay marriage is that Parliment is spending WAY to much time on it. It's taking to much out of the political agenda for this country, while here in Pickering, small town (now city) outside of Toronto, is now roaming with poverty stricken people with no homes. Just 1-2 years ago there was not 1 single homeless person in Pickering, now I have seen the all over the place. We have had more shootings this year than ever before in Ontario. Yet we decide to focus on fucking gay marriage while people are dying in our streets and we are becoming more like the U.S.....no thanks!

I used to live in Leamington, Ontario ( near Windsor ) which since I moved away has become even more infested with drugs, including crack, and has alot of poverty, especially unwed mothers who abuse welfare.
If Leamington is anything like Pickering you should blame your local & provincial politicians, & local police for not doing their job. Community resources and activities for young people sucked, and that contributed to alot of people who wasted their youth, and ruined the rest of their lives.
Alot of the poverty there is related to drugs, and I would suspect that Pickering has also seen a surge in Crystal Meth abuse, and Crack which is the reason for the surge in homelessness. Also in the past, at least in Windsor, anyone could get a factory job and education really didn't matter, and alot of people were left unprepared for the current economy in that region that is alot more diverse, but requires alot more education to get a decent job. While there are alot more homeless people there, at the same time there are employers
bringing skilled trades people from other countries to fill jobs that locals can't fill.

I also agree that gay marriage should be a done deal in Canada. No one has been harmed by it. Lets move on. Unfortunately the newly elected Conservative Government wants to revisit the issue of Gay marriage while issues facing Canada include:

1) Increasing violence by ( mostly illegal ) guns
2) Drug trafficing
3) Drug use ( I never thought I would ever hear of a crack epidemic
in Yellowknife, NWT, or Crystal Meth in Stratford, ON but I was
wrong )
4) Continuing to increase trade with Asia, to prevent a situation
like what happened in 1929. I believe that is why Chile's economy
remained strong when their neighbour Argentina collapsed in debt.
The U.S. debt is a big problem for the future economic stability
Canada
5) Building a thriving economy in the Maritimes
6) Further development of Alberta's oil, and eliminating ALL
dependence on the Middle East
7) Preventing welfare fraud, and sterilizing women that repeadly
abuse welfare using their baby bonuses for alcohol & drugs -
they should be sterilized, along with all other people that are
convicted of child abuse
8) Uniting Canada
9) International terrorism, and capturing Bin Ladin.

Unfortunately I really dont think you will hear too much from Canada's newly elected Prime Minister except for bashing of gays, and talk about abortion.

In the U.S I find it is usually the conservatives that talk most about "gay marriage" to get the bigot vote because they really dont have anything else to offer to entice people into voting for them. Bigotry against gays is what got George Bush re-elected, and now the U.S. is paying the price for it.

The half of the U.S. that voted last election based on "family values" which is a bullshit political correct term for "I hate gays" deserved the President they got, and that includes you. As for the President:
What has he done for your family? What has he done for families in poverty? What has he done about the 50% divorce rate that is the real threat to U.S. families? What has he done to lower teen pregnancy?

You probably fuck your girlfriend ( or boyfriend for all we know ) up the ass, so that would make you a buttpirate hick yourself.
