The abstract and research itself is really captivating. (I know, I'm a nerd for this kind of stuff) I'm a psych undergrad myself. I love really technical and research oriented topics. Still haven't decided whether to go to grad school for psych or law though. A career in psych is such an uphill battle working toward a PhD, not necessarily because of the amount of schoolwork that's involved, but moreso because it's hard to find decent paying jobs with a BA or even an MA in psych. So during the time you're doing your dissertation and tons of school work a lot of ppl still end up having to live like undergrads w/Ramen noodles and whatnot. (correct me if i'm wrong)
And yeah, I know about Erowid. I usually do a few months worth of research online and in my psych drug use/abuse and abnormal psych text books before trying anything new. www.ecstacy.orgalso has tons of peoples personal accounts of their experiences on E, both good and bad. People discuss feelings of euphoria, depression, gaining insight to themselves and others, dealing with addiction, meeting their husband or wife, et cetera. Really fascinating stuff. Other than doing research, it's good to just ask people who already have already had experiences with whatever. I figure if you're going to do something, it's better to know as much as you can. It's also helpful to talk to ppl who already have some experience. If you don't know anyone then there's always http://www.drug-forums.com You can pretty much ask about anything there as long as you don't say anything self-incriminating.
I'm not a big druggie or anything either lol. Never even tried weed. But it's just good to be informed so that in the event that I ever want to try anything, I have some idea what I'd be getting myself into (that includes knowing about legal penalties etc). Hope this is helpful, and yeah, the survey was a good 30 minutes but I definately saw what each aspect of the survey was trying to assess. Good luck w/your research. |
If ya don't want to be poor, go the lawyer route. I'm certainly not in this for the money. I love what I do and that keeps me going. If ya have any questions about grad school applications, if you decide to go the psych route, I'd be happy to chat with ya.
