But I am looking forward to the World Cup.
no, the real reason is because 15 years ago soccer was practically inexistent in america. now, usa have created a great strategy and put a lot into the development, which will pay off in the coming decade.
it's pretty far-fetched to say that usa would whoop everyone's ass, because it's pretty hard to beat guys who basically grow up playing soccer every day just for the love of the game (brazilians, that is), and not for the money or career prospects.

The club team I played for last year was celebrating it's 25 anniversary. And that is a women's club team. Mens soccer has been around for way longer.
I agree with BeatFreak. Usually the best athletes choose to play sports other than soccer because soccer doesn't have as big a fan base as does American Football, Baseball, and Basketball does. But the facts are that more people play soccer in the US than any other sport.

Imagine if Ronaldo and Ronaldinho had an interest in American Football. They'd be scoring touchdowns up and down the field.

Seriously, Ronaldinho doing a few steps over when making a field goal. Good stuff.
That would make such an awesome nike commercial.

He could play defense, he's got the weight. And Robinho as receiver.
EDIT: Nachos, don't even think about getting started with Mexico.
