Hehe, yup I was stung a bit. One deck had a cracked tonearm - unnoticeable until taken apart, but made slip cueing extremely difficult. They are servicable mahcines though - there are several shops in my area that advertise technics repairs (don't say anything about other models) and parts are easy to get hold of when they break (which is not very often).
I spent a lot of money on equipment early on, but there was a good reason for that. I was on the edges of the EDM scene, and only knew about the most popular music. As I learned about the music, my tastes changed faster than I could keep up. Records I'd bought only 2 weeks ago were already behind. So, whilst my colleciton was still small, I began setting all my money aside for equipment whilst I listened to more DJs, went clubbing more, and learned. Now, I've got an excellent setup and a growing collection, but I've amassed some knowledge for me to be able to records that I won't hate by next week. I think I did the right thing - it worked for me. Different for everyone though.
