Sammy's third album was much more mellower than his second, it has several slow tunes on it, one even had a new age feel. I thought I was listening to an Enya instrumental!

Anyway this thread is pointless, there is nothing to discuss. Paul Van Dyk makes music (and he earns money because he's good in it, he helps his genre to evolve) and for as far as I know dj Sammy, he's a guy who makes money (and he makes music to achieve this, and he doesn't bother about creating something new if he can make more money with a dance remake of older songs).

The only reason his name is known is because of his huge sales in North America and in Canada which is really sad because theres more talent artist who are hoping to do this well

DJ Sammy just more Pop based music, stuff that the masses will listen to. All those 10 year old girls who are into Britney Spears and J-Lo are never going to pop in a PVD mix, needless to say many of them have never even heard PVD's name or do they know what Trance music is. A lot of people still think that all EDM music is "dance". It's kind of annoying.

No man. Unless you are actually into EDM or something close to it you probably haven't. The good majority of the people i talk to don't know who he is. And your're right, he is all over Limewire..but that doesn't mean that ppl will download/buy his stuff. And let me add that i live in Canada so the EDM scene isn't as big here as it is in Europe.

^^i saw an interview with PVD on basic cable last week. 'time of our lives' was played all the time on MTV when it came out. random people not knowing about PVD doesn't equate to him being underground, rather it equates to the general public being ignorant. herbie hancock isn't underground, and most people on the street wouldn't know who he is either. you probably don't. hell, you go asking questions randomly on an american street, and half the people wouldn't even know who George Washington is, much less PVD.

no, simply being there does not qualify him as a 'pioneer'. he was just a dj and a bad producer. he didn't start any clubs or labels and he didn't come up with any new ideas for the genre. he worked with a pioneer, but that pioneer became disgusted with him and left their project. pvd's a moocher and an opportunist, he only ever cared about trance music insofar as it could put money in his pocket. you think he's underground? he hasn't been underground since 1998, and before that he wasn't underground, just unknown. like DJ sammy, i suppose.
