my full review of what I feel is Hernan's best effort to date (I only own this and vol. 1 of his renaissance comp, thought vol. 2 was bit too slow, never heard his perfecto mix).
Disc 1; First couple tracks are nice, set a dark mood, w/ first highlight being trafik - thought line, driving track. Then it flows well, nothing too noticeable for me until paolo mojo - 1983, which sounds more toned down then on Luke Fair's OS:3 (bedrock).
Then nice smooth deep groove until WOW - Wonka, another solid track, fun beat, solid kick to make you dance if you ever heard it live I imagine. 16 Bit Lolitas always put on a good showing, and passing lights is no different, enjoyable piece. Thought disc 1 closed out w/ nothing special but flow was great overall and nice.
Disc 2; My fav of the 2 discs, he wastes no time bringing on the beats starting with bushwacka, deep track, I like the vocals, moving into a trisco track. Progressive Sounds (entitled to their own opinion) railed on this track as being trisco's weakest effort to date, and while its no Muzak (nothing ever will be) its a good track in its placement on the cd.
The Union Jack track remixed by Chable was fun, I imagine it'd be better live but nothing too special. Cram it up your Cramhole is a fun track, its energetic but somehow keeps the progressive feel by not getting too uptemo. I really liked this 16 bit lolitas track over the other one, heard diggers spin this in a transitions show earlier, evil bassline, just killer track. Pulls back the energy for a couple tracks before releasing dan welton - lisopain, a banger for sure.
Continues the energy with Other Dye, nice track, some trancey synths sprinkled through out a deep chugging bassline. Then the mix just gets stronger with Muir's I feel real edited by hernan, again, fun drving track. Onto my personal favorite song of the mix, Eddie F - Breather....WOW, peak time goodness, hernan really does lay down the deepest bass lines, or masters the entire cd to be bottom heavy, either way it contrasts really nicely w/ the high pitched stabs repeated in this song. Onto hernan n tonk's track, an appropriate closer, brings down the energy a bit from breather but still keeps you dancing.
A really good mix cd, should be bought by people who's favorite progressive house djs are now spinning more electro and tech house than prog. Hernan really keeps the flow of the cd so well that most the songs could be rearranged and it'd still work. I give this 8/10, note that the only semi-recent mixes that i'v bought that I can rate higher than this are howell's GU 28 and maybe JZ's utilities, though possibly its a tie.
