oh it's absolutely overrated. Same with the horsepower as the numbers were measured with no load. But for being a 2 ton plus bucket of metal, the damn thing gets out of its way in a friggen heartbeat. it's actually quite scary. couple that with four wheel drum brakes, and make sure you bring plenty of Depends.

yeah but its not nearly as fun or rewarding.


that said i'm not a huge fan of old cars

I was thinking of restoring a 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL, but the one i was looking at turned out to be in a much worse shape then i originaly thought and it would be just too expensive, i then toyed around in my mind with a 635CSi but that didnt happen either. I rather bought a new small car and am spending the money on education, cars can wait until i finish school

actually you'd be surprised it's not as a hard as it once was. For instance I was looking for the original gas cap to my 69 Charger and found one on the internet. 15 years ago if you're local junkyard didn't know of anyone you'd be SOL.

Also with the advent of these catalog company's, such as Year One, i was able to order pre-fab quarter panels, all ready to be welded on. Instead of having to fabricate quarters myself (which I probably would've screwed up) I think for the two new quarters it cost me less than $500. Not too shabby at all. Basically I did the whole body from one catalog, (floor pans, trunk floors, gas tank, carpet)

The only real bitch has been finding original gauges in working order, as this car came with some called the "Tic Toc Tach" Which actually has an analog clock within the tachometer. These things never lasted long out of Detroit. Some companies actually remake them but they want a fortune, so it's Autometer for now.
