I lived there for 8 years (until i was 10). Visit back every year just for the cheesy clifton hill and the casinos. Its a good place to kill time, or to take a date.. but to live there, no way!

there are maaaany towns, bigger and smaller, between niagara falls and toronto, most with great schools, and honestly, if you are thinking family, MUCHMUCHMUCH better then toronto and niagara falls (kinda trashy) to settle down in.

just buy a car, and its not a problem. the golden horseshoe isn't that big.

One thing I have found is that it doesn't really matter where you go in the world, public transport is always shit and will always let you down at some point. And this is coming from someone who has frequented cities like Amsterdam, Berlin, London, New York on a regular basis, where the public transport is supposed to be shit hot. I disagree. So poor public transport in Niagara wouldn't really come as a shock. I would want to drive anyway.

Upon entering the UK, a Canadian or American citizen can use their drivers license for 1 year. After that it becomes invalid, and they will need to take our drivers test to apply for a UK license. Is that similar in Canada? Will my UK one be vaild for a certain amount of time?

This is of some comfort I suppose. The thought that civilization is nearby if I feel secluded or even lonely is quite reassuring.

Yea the housing is so cheap compared to the UK. The places her family have been looking at are massive 7 bedroom houses, which are cheaper in price than say a small 3 or 4 bedroom house in the UK. Crazy.

What are peelers? And what is the drinking age in Canada?

and there are some great chinese restaurants.

Really? That's good to know. I suppose it being such a high tourist area there would be quite a few restaurants to try out? We go out for meals quite a lot so this would be ideal if it were the case.

If you guys are old enough to marry, could you not settle in Toronto? Are you both done school/working? How old are you both?

Well, if I were to do this I think we would get married so I could be a Canadian citizen and get my visa. She was born in America you see, but was registered in Canada too; since thats where her family lived when she was just a baby before moving to the UK. Which is pretty cool really because if we work all this out, in the future we have the choice of living in America, Canada or the UK without hassle or regulations, visa's, etc. I'm 21 and she is 20. She is not done with school yet, and is going to train to be a dentist, and as such has managed to find a suitable course at a University nearby. I want to go back to University too but am not decided on what I want to do yet.

But this actually leads me to another question. When looking at tuition fee's the prices are ridiculously more for foreigners such as myself. If I were to marry my girlfriend, would I too qualify for the cheaper tuition fee's that all other Canadians get, or would I still be classed as a foreigner and have to pay more?

How old do you even have to be in Canada to get married?

Not sure what your background is, but I do know there is a Post Cereal (Kraft) plant right in Niagara Falls (surprisingly enough - just a little north on Lundy's Lane) so I'd imagine there are some other industries in the area you can tap into.

Good to know, cheers.

Yea I read about it having a considerably large Italian-Canadian community on wikipedia.org. What the fuck's that all about?

Thanks again guys.

You can use your license for 60 day. You can also get an International Drivers Permit, good for 1 year. But you will have to get an Ontario License. I believe you don't have to take the road tests. You might be able to get it "exchanged". Check out these links for more info.
