AMERICAN ENGLISH - W(tf)HY??????

So, are you from USA or elsewhere? I heard that the reason why "American" English exists is for simplification but, why change whole WORDS and a letter of the alphabet just to simplify the language? I understand the spelling might be different in other countries than USA (Colour > Color, Organisation > Organization, Centre > Center) because Americans like to spell the way it SOUNDS but, if REAL English were inforced everywhere, then that "spelling that way it sounds" will diminish. So, who agrees here?????

I live in canada rite now. things are a little better here regarding the language, but as I live on the west coast influences are from the asian people here. I mean, immigrants all around the world have problems speaking the language of their new country, so I guess it's normal.

imagine that after studying for about 6 years (then) of (british) english, when I went to the US I thought I was in the wrong country. I could barely understand ppl. and that's not only me, many ppl that live there (including my mom) told me that is the crappiest thing they've ever heard as in english. unfortunatelyu, there are so many other reasons for which the world thinks american eng is better: it's easier and it is spoken by the americans.

What kind of English do Asians (like the people who live in HK, Japan, Korea, Shanghai, etc.) speak? American or "British"?

I know what you mean, it's like that in our Chinatowns over here... they just look at you and you don't know if they understand you or not until they say something...

Re: AMERICAN ENGLISH - WHY??????

I noticed that "UK/Euro/International" English is so much different from "American" English and it's the proper way to speak. My question is, WHY IS THERE AMERICAN ENGLISH? Americans seem to call "lorry" as "truck" and spell differently too! There are SO many differences between "American" English and "REAL" English. This only makes English as a whole harder to learn than ANY other language. Another thing: Why "ZEE" instead of "ZED"??? "ZED" is used MUCH more around the world than "ZEE" because ONLY in USA, "ZEE" is used. Here's something that also is weird: Why are there TWO different keyboard layouts for the SAME language: UK and US? That's so dumb because the same symbols are used everywhere ANY European and some Asian, like Malay, and Tagalog languages are used. I try to speak as "REAL" as possible but, over here in USA noone understands me because US English is SO different compared to "PROPER" English.

ok, heres the thing, its not that americans want to be different from brits or anything, its just that the two countries have been separated for so long, over time, as you know, languages change and so did american AS WELL as british, except they changed a bit differently since they were separated. nothing wrong with that, just a few differences. if you notice, australian and canadian are also different from british.

the deali-o with the qeen and canada is actually not a piece of whack, or whatever someone called it. canada was raised, partially, by britain and the queen. she IS, symbolically, our head of state (symbolically b/c we're an independent country now). and i think that whoever said that they dont give two shits about the queen, canada, and politics should at least give some respect to the country they live in, thats the least you could do since you're not a canadian native

and i kinda agree with hypronix. some non-native english speaking ppl speak better english than some canadians or americans do. not b/c they smart or anything, but b/c when they were learning english, they were learning the CORRECT english. and candians/americans just pick it up as they grow from different places with different accents. altho i wouldnt say that its very common, however i do know some ppl who lived in canada for less than 10 yrs and who could speak english 10 times better than an average canadian.

and thats my 2 cents for the day
i would write more, but this is getting lengthy

English is basics

Here in Poland kids are learning English at 9 yrs of age. I never consider myself as a guy who can't speak that language, I'm still learning it. Without English it's impossible to, for example, surf TrancEaddict.
