are you kidding?!? Gracie took half a dozen unanswered shots to the side and back of his head, made no indication he could escape Hughes' powerful pin, and looked to be in pretty bad shape after the fight.

*perfect* stoppage...another 20 seconds of Hughes pounding on him and Gracie would have been out cold and possibly seriously hurt. Gracie didn't even achieve full guard for more than 2 seconds?!?

This poor showing isn't limited to Royce...look up various members of the family and you'll see some pretty mediocre MMA records. Great jiu-jitsu, but in MMA, the family is hardly dominant anymore.

I have never seen bad reffing in UFC ever. Every call has been spot on. There was one UFC, I think last year (I'm terrible for remembering details like which ufc it was or who the fighters are (unless, of course, its chuck)) and during this fight a guy was hit and seemed to trip and fall down on the other guy's back. Big John stopped the fight. We were all wondering why until we saw the reverse angle when it was obvious that the guy was knocked silly before he hit the ground. One of the reasons I enjoy UFC is because I know the ref's are going to make sure no one gets seriously hurt, as often as possible.

Rickson Gracie has quite an impressive record, even thou none are in ufc and pride
398-0
11-0 in IE, VTJ, and pride.

Ralph 6-1
Renzo 10-6-1
Rodrigo 6-1-1 only loss to Bj Penn
Royler 5-3-1
Ryan 5-2

Kazushi Sakuraba the gracie hunter has befeated all but Rickson I believe.

I like the pride rules too, but i think that UFC has the better all around fighters by far.As much as i hate the Xzience everything, i do like the fact that UFC is becoming more accepted as a "mainstream" sport. The popularity and cable TV exposure will assure that the best fighters will most likely choose the UFC as the promotion to be with.
Pride will be the place where the older fighters try to squeeze in a couple more fights before withering away.

With all of the Spike tv programs,i will bet that in a few years there will be no more Pride, unless they adapt.Like mentioned before 3-12 fighters have no place in pay per views. It makes Pride look like a bingo hall operation.

I dont think you follow pride on a regular basis, because you are obviously way off. Pride has a pretty large pool of new and exciting fighters such as Gomi, Krazy Horse Charles Bennett and many others. UFC to me is more amatureish, and the only reason why its becoming so mainstream is because they were able to market it to people who dont know any better. Keep in mind that Pride afterall is a Japanese affair, and has nothing to do with how many payperviews they sell in the states, they will always sell out stadiums. You talk about UFC becoming more mainstream, in Japan it already is, its huge. Pride results are on the front page cover of newspapers, not in the sports section. Pride is also more recognized internationally, you have top teams from various countries, the best of the best going at it...not some joe fucking shmoe from hicksville tennessee

As much as Gracie did for martial arts I'm glad to see the arm-bender get pounded Now let's see Hughes fight Penn!

Penn got his lucky break a couple of years ago on Hughes, but Penn's lost it since... don't think he has a chance.

I think he still has what it takes, GSP barely pulled that fight off against him. Penn's a good fighter, i just dont think he's as mentally focused as GSP.

fair enough...I'm not saying they are shit or anything, lol...just that the mystique that surrounded the family was gone long before Hughes smashed the shit out of Royce.

I have read/heard stuff about Rickson for years...it's claimed that he is, by far, the best in the family...yet never competed much. Some article claimed that people still go to train with him and leave *blown away* at even his current skill level...and I think he's pushing 50 by now. Some say he could still compete, if he chose to...

Sakuraba...sick...you can forgive his record when you see who his defeats have come against.

And lastly, it was curious to know that Kazushi Sakuraba (Pictures) was there in attendance at UFC 60. Now, I didn’t watch every single nanosecond of the televised portion of the event, but the man is a fight-sport legend and I never saw him on TV. Zuffa goes out of it’s way to showcase B-level actors like David Spade and Michael Duncan Clark as well as that more-annoying-than-a-safety-pin-in-the-eye Kevin James (from King of Queens), but they didn’t showcase Sakuraba? Come on. If they did, in fact, highlight Sakuraba’s attendance, forgive me and ignore this minor rant. I just happened to miss it. …

anyone dissing Pride strikes me as someone who just follows UFC.

Pride attracts a lot of top fighters because, AFAIK, they get paid a more to fight over in Japan than they do here (one offs like what Royce got paid to fight Hughes, notwithstanding).

you want talent? Fedor would *dominate* any heavyweight in UFC, for e.g.

btw...BAS RUTTEN IS BACK! crazy...

not dissing pride, i just wish it was more accessible.
I find alot of fights to be on the ground with nothing going on.I wish the refs would stand em back up.
Now that i have the fight networks though, i have to admit it is great to have all the older pride and k1 events
