I have some gloves, but still I'd rather not touch.. :-)

Between causing ruckuses in other threads I've got my first two bits of sheetrock up and the first set of studding for the partition wall.

Mounting the racks is going to be fun.

I'm planning on placing a wooden 2 x 3 vertically behind each of the steel studs that are going to have the rack strip screwed to for additional strength and load bearing capabilities..

apart from all the good ( ) advices in this thread...

Working with electricity either be a professional or get one to do it for you. There is too much to screw up by doing something wrong... or even by doing something not 100% right.

Yea, safety first, if you don't know what you're doing with the 'lectrics, get someone who does!

Electrics

In this case I do know what I am doing, and have a deep background in electrical & electronic engineering.

If anyone is reading this and wanting to have a go and hasn't at least apprenticed as an electrician or graduated in triple E, I must stress. DO NOT I repeat DO NOT attempt to work on any elecrical system. This stuff can and does kill people with depressing regularity.

Most of those thought they knew what they were doing..

Ok, as for vocal booth, for now I'm going to use the antiphase trick for vocals, though I do have plans to build a mobile booth in the garage along the lines of:-

So lots of progress (I took a long weekend and camped out down in the basement.)

1st of all, I am sooo looking forwards to getting the airconditioning setup. 94F + 80% humidity outside = 100F+ inside in a heavily insulated room with lots of dust in the air = Misery..

So. filled in under the stairs

and put up studding

Then I hung a lot of sheet rock, rack rails and the doors (With a buddy assisting (Thanks Jay!))

And sanded the buggery out of everything. Almost ready for paint..

Rack layouts and patchbay designs coming soon.

Just use headphones, I find it far better to work with the singer in the rooom with me, puts them more at ease and gets a better performance.

Agreed

the best vocals i have ever recorded in a studio for any musical style have always happened when ive set a mic up in the control room. Relaxed and intimiate.
