Germany is bucking for another Olympic bid, and how the World Cup goes down is a big contingent piece. If FIFA kept it "real", then it stands to reason that there'd be a bitchfest about cheating and what-all later on down the road. With FIFA being sticks-in-the-mud about every call, there's just animosity towards the refs themselves, and little chance of teams coming out later once the Cup is over saying that "this team" or "that team" cheated and the refs "didn't catch it" and so on. It makes sense in a rules lawyer kind of way, even if it does make for some tedious games.

I don't know about that. They should have ejected Essian for that dive he took right in front of the box and the refs have been calling fouls where there wasn't even any contact besides shoulder to shoulder. Makes it seem sort of rigged from my point of view.

The US should just go ahead and play a whole squad of referees if they're going to be ruining our games like that.

I once called the reporters of broadcasters that were narrating the U.S vs Checz Rep. Here in my home town. I was so pissed off because they couldn't keep their mouths on hold, and went on by saying the U.S had a bad team and so forth.
If anything in this worldcup, they have made a complete fool out of us, not that our team is bad, but the way they have treated the U.S in the media is degrating.

I believe its impossible to separate politics from sports, this is evidence of that. However, because we are smarter than all of those Anti-american goons, we will prob. get to the next world cup, stronger, wiser, faster and without bruce arena.
