Interesting, guess I missed the day in life where the artistic community collectively confirmed the notion that critical reviews are of intrinsic value to the creative process...

Guess that whole notion of, if you don't like it, don't buy it went right out the window, taking autonomy with it.

He's talking about the "you can't bash unless you make it" argument. Which is southern fried bollocks of the highest calibre.

You're also wrong. Commercial reviews are there so people can be informed about records before parting with their cash. Whether you agree with the reviewer or not is secondary- the point is that they provide information and an idea of what to expect. They can also support artists who you wouldn't otherwise check out, because a reviewer has recommended them.

The only person who should fear music critics are people who make shit music.

i'm ashamed to admit that before this thread, i don't recall listening to the 'pure trance original'. obviously, i had to own this on cd.

by chance tonight, i happened to come across this for a dollar. the cd and cover describe a bonus track as What Time is Love as 'the original and uncut'. to my great fortune it's the 'pure trance original'.

i've listened to it several times since then and have discovered, to my surprise, that it makes me lose my sense of time (which in my opinion is important in authenticating a composition as trance). the thing though, is that it made time drag. when it seemed as though i'd been listening to it for about 5 minutes, it would only be 1:40 into the track. at times, i became frustrated, yearning for a climax or breakdown.

perhaps my feelings of frustration arose because I've conditioned my brain to expect breakdowns by listening to countlesss generic trance tracks or perhaps, The KLF simply wanted to torture us.

Interestingly, the version labelled as the 1988 Pure Trance Original on later KLF releases doesn't have a kick at all.
