Really *really* looking forward to this event. Mark Farina is pretty much as close to a dj God as it gets.
But please, someone tell me that he's going to play for more than 2 hours like his last time at 270 Spadina. Nice set, but 2 hours is simply not enough time for his greatness ...

this thread was posted well before the night of the event.....
you had an opportunity to get tickets in advance for $20.
you also had an opportunity for $30 if you came before 1am, OR $30 up until 3am if you contacted myself for guestlist.
i'm sorry you ended up paying more than what you felt was appropriate, but like any club in the city.... if you show up at the door late, with no guestlist - expect higher cover.
i understand what you're saying and its totally my fault for coming after 1 am but i was assuming that there would be no alcohol sold there, thats why i paid such a high cover and then later on i find out that it is being sold. I'm sorry but even guvernment does not charge more than 20bucks for a serious headliner and i see 30 or 40 dollar cover at sonic for the same price of decadence which btw had at least 4 serious headliners. I'm just trying to see the logic behind this.
My question is, why the cover is so high when alcohol is being sold?

Why was it this expensive at the Docks last year? They sold booze as well. They also have a higher capacity. So does the Guvernment. To compare a Guvernment all access event and a special event at Sonic is rediculous. What is the capacity of the entire Guv complex again... 6000? 7000? Sonic can hold roughly 15-20% of that amount of people.
So to answer your question, there are many factors that contribute to costs when running an event. We at Sonic choose to provide an environment that is safe, and comfortable for people who attend. We could realistically ram another couple hundred people in the building for these events, which in turn could lower the cost of cover $5 or $10 but quite frankly... dont want to be known for that.
And the general feedback of those who attend Sonic on a regular basis is that they would rather pay the extra cover to ensure that they aren't rubbing elbows with the person next to them.

I dont really see whats so ridiculous about the pricetag for this party.
If its so expensive then just go for some sub-par party at Guvernment.
"You get what you pay for"...no?

what docks event are you referring to and how many djs were attending? Guvernment main rooms capacity is 1600 people, from what you just said Sonics capacity is roughly 1300 people yet the management charges twice as much for the cover.
Your second paragraph is completely irrelevant to my question because that does not answer why do you charge so much but i will reply anyway. What does safe and comfortable environment have to do with the high cover price? I go to many clubs for 10-20 bucks and i feel very safe. Realistically you could and you should fill up the club because last time i was there for Vibe it was not full at all BUT for C&C the club was packed to shit so you do ram it when necesarry so that makes your statement false. Maybe if you did charge a little less for the cover more people would attend these Sonic events. I for one love Sonic but im not ready to pay such a high cover price, especially when alcohol is going to be sold which is a big factor.

do you think that bitching about the cover is going to make management think twice about lowering it? if you can't justify the cover, simple..... dont come.

You compared this event to an all access Guvernment event which would include every room in the complex. Dont change the comparison to simply favor your argument.
