this catapulted sasha into superstar territory and that's where he will stay
like pvd with for an angel
I disagree. Xpander is a great song with Charlie May that is much better than for an angel in terms of production value and Sasha has some great tracks on Airdrawndagger with May/Junkie XL as co-producers but overall I do not think Sasha is known for his productions but his DJing. He is first and foremost a DJ in my mind and not a producer and his DJing made him a superstar. Paul Van Dyk could be argued both ways, that his productions made him popular or his DJing(what i think), but if I took it soley based on his efforts with For an Angel I would say it was his DJing without a doubt.
To me DJs didn't really get popular for their productions until the turn of the century. The first man that comes to mind is Tiesto. Before his remix of Silence he was just another Dutch DJ but after that people thought he was great. In fact I am hard pressed to think of an epic trance DJ(there are other genre djs that do not follow this) that rose to popularity after 2000 without first having him be known as an established producer first. So I guess what I'm saying is that before 2000 the focus was on the DJing and the overall set and after 2000 it became individual tracks.

Well to be honest, I think this is just a matter of tastes... those who enjoy and listen to trance the most will definitely not say many good things about Sasha. In my opinion his latest sets have been way too sick... I received today my Avalon CD's at work and I loved them, the flow, the tracks, the whole mood of both cds are great.
Of course, there are other sets that lacked perhaps some kind of flow and got lost in the middle of them... Which is why I wouldn't rate him as the best so far this year but I'd definitely put him somewhere around top 5, but this is just my opinion.

I think Sasha was always tight up until maybe mid 2005, then his tracklists became bland and repetitive due to all that electro house bandwagon.
I love his stuff from 2002-2004 where he spun progressive house. Of course we can't forget his Twilo times either which were some of his best.
I haven't listened too him lately but i still hold respect for what i have listened before.

It made me laugh when Airdrawndagger got slated in a lot of music reviews as "never being good enough to live up to the hype surrounding it". That album transcends what most DJs have released as artiste albums (exceptions occur, BT et al). WTF did they want, exactly?
I posted in the thread Purple linked to earlier about seeing him and finding his set very boring, but then not everyone hits the groove 100% of the time I guess.
Overall, he aint one of my favs, but still pwns a place in the hall of fame for services rendered for Airdrawndagger alone.

Alot of the people around this board that say Sasha plays boring music expect him to play music like Gu 13 ibiza or the circa 1999 style trance that he used to play. The only criticism of sasha these days that I will agree with is the fact that he hasnt been playing as cutting edge sets lately ie. same old tracks he been playing for awhile and I dont care for the avalon live cd. The criticism that "Sasha only plays music for people whacked out on drugs" is clearly a stupid comment. He is not the best dj right now but he is still very close to the top. Top dj right now imo is definitely Danny Howells.
agreed!! also listen to his new set: Sasha b2b Digweed, Budapest Hungary 07-07-2006

He is definatley the most pimp of the top 10 DJ's. You just can't take that away from him.

I disagree w/ all of you since it seems your perpective of good music derives from "vocal fluffy trance", but the sets i've posted proves Sasha is far from overrated.
Unfortunitely, for you, the only thing proven is what your taste in music is.

A remix of what? I must of missed something because every source I have seen says: Sasha - Xpander co-producer: Charlie May.
