Correct me if i'm wrong. THis is an inflamation of the heart's lining? Definately they'll use Anti-inflammatories.... IF it's an infection, they'll probably throw in non-penicillin based ANti-biotics.

Where exactly am I off the mark here?

plenty.

NSAIDs in general do not cause the cardiac problems you are thinking of. Only one particular subclass cause cardiac problems. And for a serious condition like this they probably wouldn't give him NSAIDs but rather steroidal anti-inflmms (in hospital at least) which cause no problems. Also, the problems encountered while using COX-2 specifics (the ones which do cause cardiac problems) are not "later down the track" but during the course of drug treatment, remove the drugs and you effectively remove the risk. Finally the use of COX-2 specific NSAIDs has been remarkably reduced since what happened with Vioxx, and it appears that the remaining drugs in this class are safer than Vioxx (however at least one paper I read suggested thats not entirely true). As this condition isn't chronic (from memory, going out of my area now) the use of COX-2 specific NSAIDs wouldn't really be necessary, they are mainly used now for people with Rheumatoid arthiritis. If they gave him NSAIDs upon leaving the hospital it wouldn't be a COX-2 specific drug.

And they wouldn't necessarily give non-penicillun antibiotics, it depends entirely on what type of infection he has as to which antibiotic they would give him.

ahhhhh.... cool...

I wasn't refering to NSAIDS causing the problem, i was referring just using them casually to alleviate the symptoms.

I always thought they avoided penicillin for heart-related conditions, unless necessary. Or maybe it's the other way around. can't remember.

I know I risk the mother of all flame wars for bumping a Tiesto thread, but does anyone know if his condition has improved? Inquiring minds want to know...ya know.

Google tells me nothing. Bah.

He's no longer on the death bed, and contrary to the idea he'll be resting up during this time, there is reports from TMF that they're flying out to Africa this week with Tijs to discover where the money goes after you've given it all to D4L. What a nice guy x
